Again, these would be better placed in Tactics or the Army List sections.

Well it matters. What do you want to use them for?
I say if your in a tight bind use them. Shock Troops are their main use.
I have never used them.
But my friends have and they love them.
They are great for clearing out huge groups of enemies in a short time. But it doesn't work all the time.

I think they tend to be Overcosted for what they are supposed to do. Add in slow and purposeful and the enemy will just run away. For an Elites slot, If you want CC go w/ Terminators (Hammernators will easily outperform the Legion in terms of both speed and surviveability) If you want shooty, go with Sterngaurd vets or regular termies. 3+ Invuln Save is nice but with a 5 man limit and no 2+ small arms fire will end them quickly.
Personally I think they either need power weapons or to be a bit cheaper in order to be competitive for an elites slot.

Not to sure what you mean by a 5 man limit but oh well.
Slow and Purposfull is a drawback, but that same rules also gives them relentless. Which means you have a DS unit that can rock heavy weapons the turn they land, and on the move.
Their place is the jack of all trades between the tactical and asault terminators. They can't do CC as well as assault terms, but have alot more options for out shooting tactical terms.
Yes they are over prices, but they can work briliantly. Just remember, they are NOT marines. They do not have combat tactics, they can not combat sqaud, and have fearless instad of ATSKNF. Its alot of tradeoffs.
On the other hand, I have a squad of them just for kill team games. At this, they rule.

No big deal, the only time I ever saw a full sqaud fielded was a 5K game.

There is no place that LOTD belong. Assault terminators do it better.
They are a bad, bad unit. They have a lovely 3+ inv, but why not just shoot them then and pass their armour with mass led??

Kinda off topic, but the flames and bones on the models, are they actually modelled on them or are the pictures on GW.com the 'eavy metal team? Cause I would love to paint some, because they are so Bad A$$ looking, but only if I don't have to hand paint the bones and flames.

Bones look like they are on the model. The flames maybe

they really arn't worth it.
They are very survivable against Plasma and other Ap3-1 weapons, but they die just as easily as normal marines to other small arms.
Slow and purposful is nice as it allows them to take heavy weapons that would be terrible on a marine model. MMs in particular.
you can deep strike and light something up with a Multi-melta. you can also scatter quite a distance and still get melta.
the main problem is they are nearly impossable to relocate if they get stranded. they are decent in CC and in shooting, but a crafty opponent will simply leave the area and hang them out to dry. or will simply pelt them with tons of small arms fire which will drop them eventually.
it isn't that they are bad, the main problem is they compete with other, better, Elites like Sternguard(who do almost the same thing for cheaper), Dreadnoughts(versitile and just as awsome), and Assault Terminators(who, once for once, are the one of the best, if not the best, CC unit in the 40k game right now)

Take them with a Libby in terminator armor, stormshield and GoI. They can teleport around together blasting away with their meltas. Plus they can reroll the scatter when they DS. Brilliant stuff.

To be honest the only way you can reasonably fit legion of the damned models into a competitive list is if you count them as regular marines or sternguard. They simply a VERY expensive tac squad and will die to the same stuff for nearly twice the points. Now if they count as regular tac marines you have all the upsides of a tac squad with really cool models to represent them.

my recommendation no. why would you pay all those extra points for a 3++ when you can get a 4++ for free? the models are sick though.

Wow, That actually has gotta be the best Idea I have seen for these guys. That actually makes them seem kinda useful.
+1 for the Idea man.
How big would you run the squad? Keep it small for points or go big for extra bodies?

for even more shenannagins have a few drop pods with locator beacons scattered around.
this thing can be done with Tactical Terminators and Sternguard too.
