Apologies if this has been posted eslewhere...
I wouldn't class it as a "wargaming" miniature, but definitely would be a beautiful display piece...
"Finely detailed, seven-piece resin miniature. Beauty and the Bot is 60mm tall (including base). Supplied with 40mm plastic base and evocative scenic insert. This resin miniature is strictly limited to 750 castings. Sculpted by Yannick Hennebo".

Im always leary of the Mcvey stuff, the scale is usually to large to fit into my gaming projects. still they do produce awesome sculpts, just not ones i would buy.

ya so 60mm tall. when they start making minis like this on GW or Hasslefree scale then i'll start buying.

I bought 'Y'sala and Darkness', Y'sala is exactly the correct size and proportion for a warhammer elf.

Edit: sorry. thought you ment Ysidyra.. Ysala is one of the few i would buy. maybe Isabelle as well, but the others are just to big or crap. Mind you, to be fair, the Veys' are some of the best painters around.

I for one, love that Studio McVey make spectacular miniatures regardless of their scale. Their models stand on their own quality, and don't need to be shoe-horned into other people's products. My only complaint is that they do limited runs of stuff.
As for this mini, it's beautifully crafted. I especially like the decorations on its back that subtly suggest angel wings without actually doing something silly like putting wing on the robot. I'm just not interested in it.

Yeah, criticizing it because you can't use it in Warhammer doesn't really seem fair to me either, seeing as how it was clearly never designed as such anyway.

No, but that is a good reason not to buy it if you're not into collecting in the first place.

Cant use it in 40k either, or any other game i can think of (maybe a clive cussler pulp type one, but the chick would have to go and that means the arms and hands would need converting.... PASS!!!!), i do colect some minis, but on this scale? its like painting a GI Joe, looking at it again hasent changed my mind. but that wasnt really my origional point. Regardless if its fit for gaming or not, I dont like the scale and never have, and i dont have a use for it display, game, or as a book end....
Again, the Veys' can produce very nice peices, but im always put off by the 'Guess the scale' game. and on this perticular mini (maxi?) im not impressed at all.

If you're not a collector and don't have any use for display models, then why even bother commenting in a thread about a model intended for display?
You have a point on guessing scale though, I prefer that scale is listed in the description. (28mm, 54mm, etc.)

i never said im not a collector, nor did i say i dont have a use for other display type models. i just dont have a use for this one and i said such in the very first post. and i commented because im allowed to voice an opinion on what i like or dont.
I find it strange you havent offered an opinion at all on the mini, just focused comments on my critiqe of it, Typical of you

This is a display piece, in the main that's what McVey are doing, selling miniatures to be painted and displayed for their own sake.
I really like it and if I were a more dedicated painter and modeller and less of a wargamer, would likely own it.

Lots of people have likes and dislikes for different models and sculptors, based on personal taste.
I don't think it is particularly remarkable, so I don't see the point of prolonging this thread by a critique of people's personal preferences.
We should consider ourselves fortunate that the market and technology can offer such a range of models and the means to show them off.
No-one could probably have moulded a model like this one in the 1980s, and if they had, getting it to everyone's notice would have been difficult and expensive.
Personally I like some of the Studio McVey stuff and I have bought three models to use as main character pieces in role-playing and skirmish games. I would not buy this piece, even though I rather like it, as I am not a collector/painter and I would not find a good use for it in a game. Automatically Appended Next Post: TLDR; Please stop bickering.

Meh, I don't really get it. Too simplistic a diorama to work out the story and not that great a sculpt either.

It may not be for gaming but was posted on Dakka, a gaming forum so I can see why people would comment the way they have.
I can see this piece as a 1950's sci fi movie, not 40k. haha.

There are over 1,000 posts a day on DakkaDakka. Surely we can allow one every few weeks about non-wargame models.
I was reminded of Metropolis by the Robot and of 1940s-50s Pulp SF by the girl's dress.

Yes! That was my thought exactly upon viewing the robot: it's on the one hand very evocative of the "Futura" robot from Metropolis, but at the same time there are elements of Gort from "The Day the Earth Stood Still". The mini is really tremendous. The only problem being, I'm sure that my skills are insufficient to paint it in the manner it deserves, heh.

I hadn't thought of Gort but you are quite right.
This creates dissonance between the perception of the Robot as an object of fear, a mechanical would-be rapist, and as an object of mercy or pity, a rescuer.

Finally, something from Studio McVey that I don't desperately want but can't justify spending the cash on. A nice piece, just not my style at all. Kind of a relief, after all the Want Hurt they put me through otherwise

There's no guessing involved. If you go to the website and select the studio store, selecting
the models that appear will pull up a description with the height of the model in question.
