With my Khorne army roughly rounded out now (2 Bloodthirsters and Skulltaker on Juggernaut I can swap out for one thirster in case I need to kill some big beasties, as well as a legion of Bloodletters and a few Bloodcrushers) I've decided to make an army list that is both themed and stands an actual chance of winning (tried playing with the Khorne List, half of my units mishaped and dissipated into the warp, while the other half landed at the enemy's front door and got shot at). Tzeentchan armies are the only Daemons that can shoot and have good durability (Not as good as Plaguebearers, but good enough) so I decided to go with them. It's also the perfect time, seeing as how Kairos was just released and he's an absolute beast with his buff. Me and my friends usually play just 1000 points or 1500 if we have more time, and my main foes are mechanized marines, Biker Orks, Fire Prism/aspect Eldar and generic Necrons, so any tips that can hep me fight those will be good. We also always play Annhilation, so my list will be geared towards that mostly. Here's the List:

Tzeentchan 1000:

HQ:

Fateweaver - 333pts

Elites:

Flamers of Tzeentch(4) - 140pts

Troops:

Pink Horrors(11) - 187pts
Pink Horrors(10) - Bolt of Tzeentch - 180pts

Heavy Support:

Soul Grinder - Phlegm - 160pts

Total: 1000 pts

Tzeentchan 1500:

HQ:

Fateweaver - 333pts

Elites:

Flamers of Tzeentch(4) - 140pts
Flamers of Tzeentch(4) - 140pts
Flamers of Tzeentch(4) - 140pts

Troops:

Pink Horrors(11) - Bolt of Tzeentch, Chaos Icon - 222pts
Pink Horrors(10) - Bolt of Tzeentch, Chaos Icon - 205pts

Heavy Support:

Soul Grinder - Phlegm - 160pts
Soul Grinder - Phlegm - 160pts

Total: 1500 pts

I originally included the Soul Grinder for some heavier muscles, but after actually using it in a game and looking at some reviews, maybe I should switch it out for a Tzeentchan Prince. I loath to give the prince wings however, since it's painfully expensive and only puts him in the line of fire faster (I've also tried a winged prince, did not work out too well). At the higher points I decided to trick out my list a bit mroe, with an almost full command of Pink Horrors and 3 units of Flamers (which I'll convert from the Horrors, to make them match their lesser brothers). Fateweaver will stay near his troops to provide them with the Save rerolls while dishing out some hurt of his own, and the Soul Grinders are meant to pound the enemy with their guns while charging at them to fill the CC gap there.

I would not use fateweaver at 1k - just not enough points for him to protect.

And yes, a Tz DP is going to be much better than a Soul Grinder when you have fateweaver. Don't give them wings, just gaze and bolt. Also consider a Tz herald on chariot. They are really good and cheap.

Icon is expensive for what it does, I typically only take one, if that. If your first wave didn't come in, you'll be scrambling a bit anyway so you won't be able to use it as effectively.

I like going MSU with my horrors a bit more, having 3 units of 6 with bolt on each rather than two of 21.

I kept the Horrors together mainly because they hold the icons and I dont want them shot to crap too soon. Although depending on the enemy deployment I might split them up. I'm gonna try and keep at least two icons in the army, so that at least one will be on the table at the beginning of the game.

Looking over the Herald on Chariot, it seems to be kind of a waste to gear him towards melee like that, but the substantial increase in wounds is nothing to laugh at. Are there any particular pieces of wargear you'd suggest? otherwise a bare Herald with Chariot seems to be pretty powerful enough (and a considerable amount cheaper than Fateweaver).

I like a herald on chariot with bolt. I don't use him for melee at all - he is a shooter!

I am tempted to take Master of Sorcery for such a Herald. Gaze is bad enough but when you put in some boltage in there even termies and raiders will quake >:3

and I'm completely switching out the Grinders for Princes. With Fateweaver in the higher points I'll get more use out of them.

Are you at all interested in doing a mixed K/T list? Your 'crushers would work really well with Fateweaver. Just a thought.

I really like 3 princes. You could cut a few horrors. Also flamers sometimes work better with 3, on the drop. It can be hard to get 4 templates down.

I'm trying to remain pure so I wont go the Fatecrusher route unless I'm absolutely getting the tar beaten out of me.

3 DPs I might actually be able to do, since due to an Ebay fiasco I got my hands on 2 metal DPs (the old CSM ones).

Here are the revised Lists:

Tzeenchan 1000:

HQ:

Herald of Tzeentch - Chariot of Tzeench, Bolt of Tzeentch, Master of Sorcery - 100pts

Elites:

Flamers of Tzeentch(3) - 105pts
Flamers of Tzeentch(3) - 105pts
Flamers of Tzeentch(3) - 105pts

Troops:

Horrors of Tzeentch(5) - Bolt of Tzeentch - 95pts
Horrors of Tzeentch(5) - Bolt of Tzeentch - 95pts
Horrors of Tzeentch(5) - Bolt of Tzeentch - 95pts
Horrors of Tzeentch(5) - Bolt of Tzeentch - 95pts

Heavy Support:

Daemon Prince - MoT, Iron Hide, Unholy Might, Breath of Chaos, Daemonic Gaze - 205pts

Total: 1000

Tzeenchan 1000:

HQ:

Fateweaver - 333pts

Elites:

Flamers of Tzeentch(3) - 105pts
Flamers of Tzeentch(3) - 105pts
Flamers of Tzeentch(3) - 105pts

Troops:

Pink Horrors(11) - Bolt of Tzeentch - 197pts
Pink Horrors(10) - Bolt of Tzeentch - 180pts

Heavy Support:

Daemon Prince - MoT, Breath of Chaos, Daemonic Gaze - 155pts
Daemon Prince - MoT, Bolt of Tzeentch, Daemonic Gaze - 160pts
Daemon Prince - MoT, Bolt of Tzeentch, Daemonic Gaze - 160pts

Total: 1500

In the 1000 list I gave the DP some close combat prowess to even out the fact I have no CC support. In the 1500 list, they lost most of their stuff so I can include the third one. With Fateweaver's save rerolls the lack of a 3+ armor save wont be that much of a hamper. I took your advice on the Flamers and reduced them down to bare minimum unit sizes. This also helps with the conversions since Horrors come 10 models a box (there are 21 horrors and 9 flamers in the army, translating to exactly 3 boxes). Due to the lack of strength on the Daemon Princes, I decided to give two Bolts of Tzeentch to even out their uses.

For the 1500 list Id switch out the 2 10man units of horrors for 4 5man units. This way you get more bolt in. Also the changeling might be nice to pick up for 5pts, I always use him if Im using horrors.

"Dire Avengers are even great in close combat, I mean, an Exarch with a Diresword can even take down a Carnifex!!"

EUROCHEESE - You can smell it.

I dont have much in the way of trimming points for more Bolts, and the DPs should handle anti-tank just fine as is. The Changling, however, might be useful in helping to preserve the larger block of horrors. I can squeeze out just enough points from downgrading one DP's Bolt of Tzeentch into a Breath of Chaos, and gaining the Changling.
