So, tournament on Saturday 23/oct/2010, and I fancy taking a silly list because my tactical skill are so non-existent I might as well! Who knows, there may be a "best sportsman" award...

Anyway, by that fateful day I will own:
All 5 'casters;
2 Phoenixes;
2 Hydras;
2 Manticores;
2 Chimeras;
1 Gorgon;
3 Griffons;
(2 Arcanists);
(1 Scyir).

I also own Discordia (gotta love eBay...) , but she won't be official in time for the tournament.

So have at it guys! Your challenge is to write me TWO lists, and maybe some thoughts as to how you'd play them.

Thanks in advance!

This doesn't even occur to me as a silly idea, more just a bad one. Retribution doesn't really have a caster that wants multiple heavies in a 50pt game, much less all heavy in 35pt. You could just ask for help building real lists. But if you're sold on the idea:

Kaelyssa
-Phoenix
-Phoenix
-Hydra
-Hydra
-Griffon

Witch Hound will pretty much make this army immune to spells, unless your opponent feels like giving you free movement and attacks. The feat will give you some extra shooting and if you go first in a in a scenario, you can run the Phoenixs to objectives. You can just load the Hydras with focus cast Phantom Seeker on them and go for assassinations, but at RAT 5 it will be pretty iffy at best.

Vyros
-Phoenix
-Phoenix
-Manticore
-Manticore
-Griffon
Arcanist

Cast mobility and use remaining focus and Arcanist to run everyone. Wait to pop the feat until a Phoenix is in position to combustion which will generate focus for everyone else. Keep the Griffon back for Vyros to flank with.

Thats about it, all aboard the failboat.

This sums it up nicely. Ret has, in my opinion, the best infantry in the game. Not taking them is just setting yourself up for a loss.

But y'see, I've just painted 5 new 'jacks, and Saturday will be my first chance to play them!

Really not looking to win, just to have a bit of fun. Maybe after the weekend I'll come back to ask for some general list-building advice (and very specific advice Vs. a particular Legion player I have yet to beat), but for now I just want an excuse to play Mangled Metal for a whole day at 35pts.

Cheers for the advice so far guys! I shall reward you later with pics of my hastily dipped 'jacks!

Well if you want something you just want to try:

Army:
Type: Skirmish (1 caster, 35pts)
Points: 33
Adeptis Rahn Shyeel (*6pts)
* Hydra (9pts)
* Hydra (9pts)
* Phoenix (10pts)
* Phoenix (10pts)
Arcanist (0pts)
Arcanist (1pts)

Turn 1:

Allocate 3 focus to each Hydra.

Arcanists each advance and cast power booster on the two Phoenixes.

Phoenixes run, possibly attempting to flank.

Hydras advance up the middle, or run depending on how you will want to use your focus.

Rahn Activates, casts Polarity Shield on whichever Phoenix is staring down
a charge from across the table.

Next turn:

Decide if you want/need Forcefield.

Hydras each keep 3 Focus.

Upkeep Polarity field.

Allocate focus as needed: If a Phoenix is going crazy town combat, give it 1 focus (to Charge/Combust)
or 3 focus (multiple melee attacks). If you're going to arc spells, consider allocating a focus
to one of the Phoenixes to give it a run. Determine whether or not Rahn will need Force Field up or not.

Reserve Focus for Telekinesis (this should be a habit)

Run Arcanists to get closer to where you think you're going to have to melee with
your jacks next turn such that they will be both safe and in range to advance and repair
or use concentrated power.

Enjoy!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
You'll have trouble with infantry spam. However, you can get over SOME of that with
Combustion. The problem with relying on Combustion is that if it doesn't work , your
precious arc node is engaged and Rahn can't channel through it.

You also won't get the most out of his feat.
