Hello all,
I've been tweaking my first list before getting ready to play my first game and I decided to rework my Tau stealthsuits so that they have a marker drone rather than having the leader take a regular markerlight w/ a target lock. The problem is that puts me 15pts over the 1500 limit I'm starting out with.

I have a unit of kroot 9kroot/1shaper/10hounds that I intend to bring as an outflanking unit with the intent of grabbing objectives and digging in or harrying specialized infantry like snipers and the like. This unit is currently taking the shaper bonus for a 6+ armor save for each model. Is that 6+ going to last? I have 'no' battle experience, but what from I've read it seems like there are a lot of guns out there that dont care about a 6+ armor save. Is this accurate?

My other options for picking up points are taking flechette dischargers off my two devilfish, or dropping bonding knives on various units (dont really want to lose the knives)

Tau are pretty amazing in WFB.. They can move all around and totally destroy big blocks of unit that cant get into a charge arc!

To answer the question, no .. the kroot armor upgrade is a total joke

total agreement. A good line to remember about Kroot, "Move like Eldar, hits like CSM, dies like Guardsmen'

As was said before Kroot Armor is a waste of points. Most things will just ignore it when shooting and just about every cc unit has something that will tear it apart as well. It's better to rely on the cover save granted from jungle and such. Those points are better spent on more Kroot

I completely agree.

Really, you have a 1/6 chance of surviving... whenever you are hit by ap- weapons, which will be a rare thing except in cc.

Also, you could just get another kroot for every seven saves, mathhammering it, its way more effective, the only difference is that for an extra point, you are effectively giving your unit extra attacks and shots.

So given that the armor save isn't that great, is the shaper himself worth taking? Mine has the carbine mainly just for an off chance pinning shot, and I couldn't figure out where else to stick the 5 points.

Shaper with a pulse rifle isnt that good, you are using kroot BS so that off chance pinning is pretty low, better to take more regular kroot

19 points is nothing. I'd take the saves for that.

Kroot are not worth it to give the armour. Infiltrate them into Cover, preferably woods.

One thing thou, if one stealthsuit takes a weapon system then they all are required to have a weapon system. So your cheapest option is a blacksun filter for the rest the squad and Target Lock for the commander. Note* Drone Controller is 0 points but you have to purchase atleast one drone.

A Shaper is worth it if you have the points, The armor upgrade, not so much. For the 21 points on the shaper, you get 5 attacks on the charge, LD 8, and 2 more wounds. What's not to love?

The Armor Upgrade is just a waste of points.

Because you could have used the points from a joe Shaper for 4 kroot instead, which makes me think it's a poor choice.

It would be 4 wounds, and 8 base attacks 12 on the charge.

Seriously, the only thing you get with getting a Shaper is higher Leadership.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.
