Under Wolf Guard wargear it lists the option to take a thunder hammer or a storm shield for 25 points.

Does this mean that you have to take one or the other? Or can you take both? If so, does it cost 25 points for both together?
Or 50 Points by taking them both?

Sorry if this question seems bad, I'm still new to the game.

Thanks for any help.

The Wargear options there are for replacing one weapon with a Thunder Hammer or Storm Shield. Basically, you can take that option, replace the WG's Close COmbat weapon with a Thunder Hammer. You can then take it again, this time replacing his Bolt Pistol with the Storm Shield. The "or" is just to save ink. The Thunder hammer shares the same point cost as a Storm Shield, so it saved ink by writing it down in such a format. It is also to give the players some options, allowing them to take two Thunder hammers on the same model (thus giving the model +1 attack due to having two Hammers).

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

The rules are really shabbily written. They are explicit when it comes to Terminator Armour, but when it comes to Power Armour the intention is that you can get both for +X points each. If you read the rules exactly, though, then you can't replace both unless you subscribe to computer language when it comes to interpreting "or"*.

* "or" in everyday speech is the same as "either or" while in computer language it is the same as "and/or"

I really need to stay away from the 40K forums.

The SW Codex is clear too. You can replace the Bolt Pistol with a TH or SS, and then can replace the CCW with a TH or SS.

And no, I won't.

the Space marine Codex also Gives you Lightning Claws to start with on Assault Terminators; whereas the SW Wolf guard starts with giving them termie Armor(that includes a Storm Bolter and a power sword), then you separately upgrade the Storm bolter and the Power Sword for the Thunder hammer and the Storm Shield.

the SM Assault termie costs 40 points whereas the WG TH/SS termie costs 63 Points(but has several other botent abilities different from the Basic Assault termies; notably Acute senses, Counter attack, and Pack leaders).

Also for 5 more points you can have the Wolf guard wear Power armor and have the TH+SS.

but yes, as Gwar Said each instance of or in the weapon options list is because one of those chosen weapons at the listed cost replaces one of the base weapons listed in the beginning of that particular section.(Bolt pistol and/or Chainsword for the Power armor, and Storm bolter for one price and power sword for another price if terminator armor is bought).

Mahotmori: the power armor portions are just as well written as the terminator armor options in that they are specifically chosen from "Bolt pistol and/or Chainsword" meaning you can replace either the Bolt pistol, or the Chainsword for the options presented at a replacement of 1 for 1. And/or means that you can replace both weapons, but do not have to; and as such can make different choices for the replacement of each.

Had they used a simple "or" then you would only be able to replace on of the base weapons for the alternate; and had they said simply "and" then you would give up both weapons for a single alternate weapon.

The language on it is very well thought out.

or 2 storm Shields if you wanted to go crazy with wasting points.

I am not saying 2 TH are a Waste of points by the way, just stating if you wanted to hamstring yourself 2 Storm shields(and maybe a Mark of the Wulfen) would be a good way to do it(the mark is actually an effective item on the otherwise less than effective model/build).
