Nurgle is the only viable mono-god army, and, consequently, automatically wins.

How so, what makes a mono nurgle army so good.
I believe in one of my earlier post you repsonded stating both the Herald of Nurgle and Beast of Nurgle where considered one of the weaker units.

In a word, Epidemius. The ability for your cheapest troops model to have 3 power weapon attacks that wound on 2's with three wounds and immunity to instant death is incredible. Nurgle is tough to kill, and, with Epidemius, actually becomes deadly.
Nurgle Princes are the best, IMO, because they're more resistant to small arms fire and they are really good at taking out hordes to ramp up the tally. Then, all your other units become death incarnate and nigh impossible to kill.

Claypool said it perfectly. While an Epidemius list has it's problems (needing epidemius on the table, scattering badly, ect..) Once they get into combat they become unstopable. Most nurgle units are hard to move, slow and not that great in combat. By deepstriking near to the enemy their lack of speed is no longer a problem, and one you've killed 20 models they are even harder to kill and can cause a lot of pain in CC.
By using 3 DP you get 3 units which can break open tanks (daemons major problem) and raise the kill tally very fast. Nurglings become an amazing unit. Only 13 points each but with 3 power weapon attacks which wound on a 2+. They will beat most other similarly priced units in combat.
Nurgle armies win or lose depending on the first few turns. If you can kill enough models quick the momentum lets you steamroll most things if not then you stuck with tough but slow and not very dangerous troops.

Epidemius does indeed make for a very effective all-Nurgle army, and probably the only truly effective mono-God army.
Fluff-wise and in an integrated army, I'm particularly partial to Tzeentch and Slaanesh, but there's no way a mono-god army of either can compare with Nurgle once the Tally gets rolling.

What if epidemus dies before you can get said ball rolling from what I've read he's not amazing save his tally ability.

As long as you stick Epidemius in a big block of Plaguebearers and hide him somewhere safe, it's going to be very hard to remove him from the field. An Epi list has its problems, but it is far and away better than any other mono-god army out there.

You can overcome the slowness by aggressive deep-striking, and equipping your Princes with Wings. Other than that, it's praying for good Slow and Purposeful rolls.

I find Ku'gath to be no more than an overpriced GUO. GUO's biggest draw is their cheapness and their toughness. Ku'gath's abilities don't add enough to justify his added cost. I'd stick with a GUO and Epi for HQ's.

So each God excels in one aspect and is weak in another:
Khorne-Killy but can't shoot
Slaanesh-Fast but fragile
Nurgle-Tough but slow and weak
Tzneetch-Shooty but weak in CC
If you build an army consisting of only one God's units, you sacrifice strength in a lot of areas in exchange for complete dominance in one.
A Nurgle list, thanks to Epidemius, has the ability to overcome its weaknesses in a way that no other army can.

Claypool's dead-on. Most effective Daemon armies will have troops from multiple gods, so as to shore up the weaknesses of any one god - you have Slaanesh troops to skirmish and harry lighter foes, Khornate ones to act as the hammer to your Nurgle anvil, and Tzeentch providing fire support.
In a mono-god army, you end up with substantial weaknesses, ones which can cripple your efficacy. Epidemius gets around this via the tally, which allows Nurgle troops to be amazingly hard to kill but also have the sheer killing power of a Khornate force. It's still slower than molasses, but it's extremely hard to take down and will crush anything it catches.
