Seeing as I have a SM Codex lying in my ammo crate collecting dust, I've been thinking how would people accept using Blood Angels with the Space Marine Codex. I thought that this would let me use the sweet special characters avaliable to vanilla SM, and I can't see a reason why anyone would object, as long as I make it clear that I'm using the SM 'dex, and obviously if I don't use any BA specific characters, units or abilities.

What would you say in this situation? Would you allow this or tell me to go home?

Thanks,

I'd say its ok - all you'd have to say is that its a faction of the BA that broke off to follow the codex astartes. As long as you made it clear what was what, i'd have no problem with it.

As long as you make it clear you are using the SM Codex, and are playing the Blud Angles, not the Blood Angels, you will be fine.

Calling them "blood angels" and painting them red is just a matter of personal embellishment. Call them Blood Angels if it makes you happy, but what's in a name? Likewise you could have pink and green polkadot armored figures called the "Emperor's Slurpees" if you want to and make them an offshoot of the Blood Angels or the Black Templars as far as rules are considered. Your paint scheme, and the name of your army shouldn't affect the rules of which Codex offical rules it represents. I know a guy who painted his Space Wolves Black because he didn't like the light blue. They certainly aren't Space Wolves so far as backstory and "fluff" goes, but they bahave like them on the table. Anybody but the most stick-up-his-butt purist shouldn't have a problem with it at all. A Marine with a Lascannon miniature is still WYSIWYG. Painting it red or black or blue doesn't change the rules you choose to use for it. Which codex you choose for it to represent does.

The only thing I could see people having an issue with is mix and matching between codex like taking ultramarine heros leading space wolf grey hunters and long fangs, Dark Angels terminators, backed by blood angels assault marines, Baal predators and Furioso Dreads. You can't have the best of all worlds.

Fluff has no actual bearing on the game. As long as your units conform to WYSIWYG rules (which simply means they need to have the wargear showing on them), there should be no disputes. Blood Angels are also a mostly Codex Chapter so it's pefectly understandable to use them with the standard SM codex.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.
