It's been a couple of months since I played, but here's a quick Q:

10 Warriors in a Raider.
Raider moves 6" and shoots its Dark Lance at a Rhino.
Can the Warriors shoot its Splinter Rifles into the unit of Marines next to it (separate target)

I thought shooting was done simultaneously?

A squad and the transport in which it is embarked are two separate units. The rules never tell you that the squad has to fire at the same target as the transport, so they don't have to do so.

Shooting from a single unit is done simultaneously. But each of your units shoots one after the other, as per the sequence on page 15 of the rulebook.

Yes, they can shoot at different units because they are two separate units. All shooting from a single unit is simultaneous, but shooting from two different units is not. So, you are allowed to, for example, shoot a transport with the Raiders Dark lance and then shoot at the now disembarked passengers with the Warriors on the Raider, but you can't shoot at a rhino with a Warrior Squads Dark Lance and then the disembarked passengers with the rest of the units Splinter Rifles.

As already pointed out, they HAVE to be two separate units, otherwise you would be forced to keep coherency, be limited to the speed of the slowest model etc. etc.
