In celebrations of a new beginning in both 40K and life I have switched up to the Angry Marine Chapter of Space Marines. I am playing them as really pissed off Blood Angles. The Angry Marines have participated in Da Grand Waagh on the USS Hornet in Alameda, CA. They number 1850 points and growing.
The Army right now consists of the following:

Mephiston

Pissed off Priest sportin a Power Sword and Combi-Melta

5 Angry Assault Marines with Melta and Power Bat crusin in a Ass Cannon Razorback
5 Angry Assault Marines with Melta and Power Finger crusin in a Ass Cannon Razorback
5 Angry Assault Marines with Melta and Melta Bombs crusin in a Heavy Bolter Razorback

Master of Blasphemy (Chaplain) rockin a Combi-Flamer
5 Burning Brothers (Death Company) with Power Ax, Power Sword, Infernus Pistol and Thunder Hammer

Bligerent Engine with twin Blood Talons
Furioso Librarian

Right Baal with shinny new Ass Cannon and Heavy Bolters
Left Baal also rollin Ass Cannon and Heavy Bolters

Raging Predator With Twin-Linked Lascannons.

The Bird (Stormraven) Twin Linked Ass Cannon, Missiles and Twin Linked Multi-Melta goodness.
Another Bird (Stormraven) Twin Linked Ass Cannon, Missiles and Twin Linked Multi-Melta goodness

As of today everything is built and painted except the second Starmraven. I am also going to make a Predator Angrinator and a display board. I still need to do some details on most models: eyes, sensors on the vehicles.

There are a few things that I am proud of:

1. The overall humor, this army is fun to play and get comments from other gamers on.

2. The Decals. I made these all myself on Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop. This is my first real use of decals

3. The weathering. I like how the metal through paint effect came out on the vehicles.

Below are the shots and descriptions. As always feel free to comment critically.

Sergeant with Power Bat

Sergeant with Power Wrench

Sergeant with Power Finger

Angry Squad

And here are my Baal's

Right Baal

This says "Warning: Objects in sight are deader than they appear"

Left Baal (Yes its a blue Baal)

Here is the Billigerent Engine (Furioso Dreadnought with dual Blood Talons)

Next are the Burning Brothers commanded by a Master of Blasphemy (Death Company commanded by a Reclusiarch)

Master of Blasphemy

Brother with Power Weapon

Brother with Power Weapon

Brother with Thunder Hammer

Brother with Infernus Pistol

Brother with Chainsword

Below is my Librarian with Combi-Flamer. I also use him as Mephiston if the mood strikes me.

Raging Predator

"Don't Run, you'll just die tired..."

Pissed off Priest (Sanguinary Priest)

One of the Razorbacks

Here are the Final Shots of "The Bird" with all the waterside transfers and weathering.

My newest edition: a Furioso Librarian.

The Angry Marines do have a ton of fluff. Here is the link to the originators:

Keep checking here as I have re-written the codex to make it a little more kid friendly. I have a 12 year old son so I had to tone down a lot of the cussing. For instance everywhere it says the F-word I use Frack.

Paint helmet lenses! You did a great job with all of the lenses on the bird, do it for the helmets!

Bring out the wings on the chests with a bleachbone or something, it'll add more detail and color to the figures without adding much work.

Give the metal on the dread (and possibly all of the bleached bone surfaces on all models) a sepia or other light brown wash. It will add a lot of depth and color, give an even dirtier grunge look without diminishing the great look you already have going.

I love the power bat. Excellent work!

Great suggestions. I have since these pictures added many details including painting all the helmet lenses. I will give you all and update before christmas. I can tell you that I have added another Baal Predator and second Stormraven.

Depraved wrote:Great army, some of your guys look like they have been working in a coal mine. Is that why they are so angry?

The coal mine look is actually my Black Brothers. I use the Blood Angels rules for all of my army so they are my count as Death Bompany.
Here is the Black Brother's fluff as re-written by yours truly:

Black Brothers

Special Rules
And They Shall Know No Fear, Furious Assault, Preferred Enemy (Slaanesh all Slaanesh-aligned Daemons, and any unit or model with a Mark or Icon of Slaanesh), Counter-Attack, Move Through Cover

They’re Fracking Pissed!: Such is the Black Brothers rage and hate, that once they are on the field of battle, they cannot stay in one place for long, or they will start fighting amongst themselves. A Black Brothers squad may not use Transports, and they must always end their turn closer to an enemy unit than they began.

Flames of Wrath: The power armor of a Black Brother has been scorched black due to the occupants searing hatred. Angry Marine Techmarines affix multiple small sconces onto the armor which contain smoldering coals and other slow burning, smoke producing materials; and also small tanks of Promethium which fuel wrist mounted flamers and backpack mounted torches. Additionally, they have coated the armor with flame retardant.

On the battlefield a squad of Black Brothers will be wreathed in smoke and flame, and thus are a terrifying sight to behold. For every 5 Black Brothers in the squad (Master of Blasphemy or Brusiarch excluded) they will gain a cover save as shown in the chart below:

# in squad Cover Save
1-4 6+
5-9 5+
10-14 4+
15-19 3+

If the Black Brothers assault or are assaulted the enemy unity must pass a leadership check.

Finally all of the Brothers are immune to attacks made by Hand Flamers and Flamers(or any filthy Xenos equivalents). They are affected normally by all other flame type weapons.

Fearless: As the squad must be lead by a Master of Blasphemy or Brusiarch (Chaplain), they are fearless.

Hope that helps show the tongue in cheek direction this army is going for.

Actually only the sergeant are angry enough to earn the coveted red helmet. On the Angry Marine's home planet of Ire a marine must proove himself really fracking angry to earn a peeved helm. Either that or beat the crap out of the sergeant and take it from him...

Ennkay wrote:My biggest problem with this project is that there are far too many pistols. What the feth is that pussy gak?

I have to use them as Assault Marines. These are actually my Angrier Squads without their Jet Packs:

Angrier Squad

Angrier Squads are angry. Angrier even then normal Angry Marines. Having been recognized by their Sergeants as really fracking angry, they have been promoted to the Angrier Squads.

Angrier Squads excel at close-quarter fighting. Equipped with anger powered jump packs and all manner of close-combat weapons, they scream across the battlefield like angels; albeit really, really angry angels. With little heed for their own personal safety, they charge furiously into the ranks of their enemies, hungry for combat. Eye to eye with their foes, close enough to smell their blood, the Angrier Marines feel most at home.

The jump pack is easily as dangerous as any weapon the Angrier Marine carries. With mobility, allowing the Angrier Squads to traverse all manner of terrain swiftly and without hindrance, or even perform controlled low-altitude descents from Thunderhawk Gunships. So it is that no position on the battlefield, no matter how secure, is secure enough to keep the Angrier Marines out.

Angrier Marines draw the bloodiest, most dangerous of battle assignments. Often operating far ahead of the rest of the army, Angrier Marines are in constant danger of being outflanked, cut off, or overwhelmed by the enemy. They would have it no other way. Angrier squads constantly find themselves knee deep in corpses, fighting for their lives. Only raw might and iron resolve allow them to hack their way to victory.

Special Rules
And They Shall Know No Fear, Furious Assault, Preferred Enemy (Slaanesh all Slaanesh-aligned Daemons, and any unit or model with a Mark or Icon of Slaanesh), Counter-Attack, Move Through Cover

Berserk Charge: Angrier squads are really fracking angry and their charges are likewise, really fracking angry. They receive a bonus of +2 attacks when they charge, rather than only +1 attack as is normally the case. Note that this rule applies only to the angrier marines and not to their attached Sarge or any independent characters that may have joined the unit.

always angry, all the time!

I uses the Hairspray masking technique.

1. Black Basecoat

2. Drybrush Boltgun Metal

3. Spray whole model with matte clearcoat. Let it dry for a day

4. Spray whole model with cheap hairspray. Let it dry for a day

5. Paint a slowed amount of yellow on the dang model. I use one coat of Tausept Ochre, 4 light coats of Golden Yellow, A heavy wash of Gryphonne Sepia, 4 light coats of Sunburst Yellow. Then I go stark raving mad...

6. Place model in warm water for 5 minutes

7. Using a stiff plastic brush (like the ones uses for cleaning floors) Gently scrape the paint from the model paying attention to the edges.

8. Let model dry overnight.

9. Spray whole model with matte clearcoat. Let it dry for a day

10. Pick out details and add decals.

Hope that helps.

JaxnFury wrote:I'm sorry to sound like an ass but these are some of the worst mini's i've seen. The Angry Marines were such a silly concept army in the first place but your painting of them looks incredibly messy, rushed and done with very little care or appreciation of the models.

I cringe at all the money that must have been spent on these mini's only for them to be treated like this.

Please try not to take too much offense at this, I really don't want to piss anyone off. I just think you should be given some crticism on these so that you take more care of any future models.

I would recommend stripping down 90% of these and starting again. Keep them as Angry Marines because obviously they appeal to you - and that's fine, but please, for the love of The Emperor, give them a better paint job.

Actually I enjoy your opinion. Believe it or not it take a huge amount of time to make these look that weathered. Please look at some of my other threads and you can see some examples of other things I have painted.

Thank you very much for chiming in on this.

I agree with you on this. My newer models are less weathered. Keep watch for an update. I am still learning...

shasolenzabi wrote:Now you need the angrywindlauncher, a modified whirlwind I saw with the angry marine snarly face it had extra launchers on the sides, all launchers were loaded with angry marines ready to be launched at the enemy!

I believe you are talking about the:

Predator Angrinator

The most eccentric of all divergences Angry Marines take from standard Adeptus Astartes practices, the Predator Angrinator is the signature of the Angry Marine vehicle pool.

The Predator Angrinator was developed when an Angry Marine Engineseer by chance found himself on a bench in the vehicle pool, sitting between a whirlwind and a drop pod. The light bulb clicked, the rest is history.

In its brief run time, the Predator Angrinator has proven exceedingly popular among the Angry Marines. Being both Angry and practical, it has seen extensive combat with rave reviews.

Transport

The Predator Angrinator has a transport capacity of ten models. It cannot carry models with Terminator armor. Models may only embark on the Angrinator if both the squad and the Angrinator are stationary and have not fired, as it takes a full turn to load into the angry launcher.

Angry Launcher: The angry launcher is the epitome of Angry Marine technology. Firing Angry Marines out of a cannon like deadly, deadly clowns, the angry launcher allows its charges to meet the enemy head on, as fast as fracking possible.

After scattering, place the loaded Angry Marine squad under the Large Blast marker, in base to base contact with an enemy model if possible, and resolve hits against all models under the marker. Every Angry Marine launched counts as charging in the subsequent Assault Phase.

This is on my workbench as we speak!

And what did you use for making the decals? I'd love to have some fancy writing and things for my Pretty Marines but can't quite freehand it yet. Little flowers are one thing, but flowing calligraphy at that scale is beyond me.

Still wish I'd be able to face off against them with my Pretty Marines. No way I can make Adepticon though.

I made all the symbols on Adobe Illistrator and Photoshop. I went to the local hobby store and bought some inkjet decal transfer paper and printed them on those.

Wish we could face off too.

Skalk Bloodaxe wrote:Absolute pure win and full of goodness. The original concept was funny but so many people have failed when they tried to bring it to life. You sir have not failed. In fact, I think you need to add two more Baals to your army, except paint them brass.

The paintjob on some of the Marines is a bit meh, but whatever. The amount of detail and conversion you put into building your army is clearly evident and while it is a "fun" army you obviously take it seriously enough to give it that amount of time.

Well done. You sure won't win any painting contests, but you've won the "Coolest Imperial Space Marine Army I've Seen In A Long Time" award for what that is worth.

Thank you very much. I love the Brass Baals. That will happen, sir, pure genius. I'll take that award it means a lot, really.

For those of you who like the Angry Marines I put up a t-shirt site on Cafe Press. These are from the graphics I made to place on this army. I think I may just be sporting one of these at Adapticon.

Here is a link: http://www.cafepress.com/SillmironStudios

Remember to view the shirts in yellow!

Hi there, welcome to the Angrest Chapter Fracking EVER!

I made the power bats from green stuff. Its pretty easy. Just roll up the green stuff and let it dry. Paint appropriately and lay into a Spec Elf.

The power wrenches are Lego pipe wrenches. I bought them off ebay. There is an auction right now for one: http://cgi.ebay.com/Lego-City-Minifig-Tool-Light-Grey-PIPE-WRENCH-New-/230481346823?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35a9c24107

As a bonus to all you Angry Marines out there I have to PDF symbol packs for you. Use these to make your Marines sharp.

Mind doing a tutorial?

I use the Hairspray masking technique to make battle damage. Here are the steps:

1. Black Basecoat

2. Drybrush Boltgun Metal

3. Spray whole model with matte clearcoat. Let it dry for a day

4. Spray whole model with cheap hairspray. Let it dry for a day

I liked that so much I added it to the work in progress 5th edition codex. Please PM me whatever moniker you wish to use so I can give you credit.

That was a great write up. Play test it and let me know any changes.
