Just wondering if anyone had used anything like it. I imagine any skilled 3D artists would be able to make some very cool, unique models.

There are a few 3d model printing companies out there, but I don't know if I've seen one that lets you have a 'store' and will essentially custom manufacture them to order. Good find.

In my mind, there are two issues with 3D printing at it's current state and if I'm a dinosaur, someone please let me know. The first issue is detail. Even in this website there is an example of a piece shrunk down to 1" length and the detail looks pretty terrible. I assume that by this point that's because the model was intended to be much larger and the compression is the reason that it looks like gak, not that the technology can't deal in small scale. The other issue is that the prototypes are typically way expensive. Again, for small scale that may not be as big an issue, but for larger scale 3D printing is still cost prohibitive for non-commercial, out of your garage type work.
