I'm considering starting a second warmachine army. My first faction is Retribution. I mostly use ravyn and it's pretty much a stand and shoot army. I'd like to switch gears for my next army and get something that excells in combat and has the wheels to get there fast!

I'm considering a Mercenary highborn list. Any other suggestions for a frighteningly fast army?

Cryx.... Most of the merc stuff is slow.

Have you looked at other Retribution casters/lists? Garryth and Kaelyssa can both put together some nasty lists revolving around speed and pop.

jep, cryx is fast. Average speed is about 6. Some exceptions in SP 7 from satyxis and blackbanes ghost raiders. We even have a light cavalry, which makes them able to cross more then 20 inch a turn.

Only thingh we lack is ways to really boost the jacks speed apart from infernal machine (coven) and overrun (mortenebra). This is something that is seen more in khador (boundless charge (couple casters), pVlad's feat, strakhov has something). Menoth too has a few ways to speed up a lot of jacks at once. Except cryx though they all have bad base speed. Cryx heavies are standard 6, while menoth and khador heavies are 4 (some menoth 5). Bonejacks are Sp7, while menoth lights are mostly 5.

If you really want to get away of stand and shoot then go cryx. Making an effective shooty list is pretty close to impossible...

Cryx.

Satyxis Raiders AD, and not only that run 14"....16" with Desprate Pace on them...then have Reach on top of it, locking stuff in combat 18" away, 16" deployment.

Soulhunters can run 16", get 1" from Death Ride, they have reach, and they have the 5" light cav movement.
They deploy normally but can lock down stuff in combat 22" away.

Funny enough both options will likely ignore rough terrain (UA pathfinder and Wrathe Incorporeal) and both options actually reach the same distance with respect to locking something in combat, 22" past the normal deployment zone. Basically, you can just reach the outside of the opponents' AD line.

Other than that...there is out of activation speed from like Morti and Overrun.
There is the eGaspy assassination run with feat that can reach out a cool 26"
pGoreshade can do something similar with his feat, but only reaching 24.5"
Both assuming deathride, tart curse, and charge from Caster, not taking into account Madalyn.

Khador:
pVlad has some fast Jacks with feat.
eVlad has some fast joe infantry with feat.
Strakov has some fast everything with feat.

Legion and Circle are pretty fast as well, both having light Cavalry as well.

Circle and Retribution have Moshar and Garryth respetively that can put Mirage on a unit.
Retribution has the Griffin who is slaved to the Sentinal UA jack caster that can reach out pretty far with his drive, run, and reach.

Cygnar:
Casters with energizer make a Jack faster.

Mercs:
Asylnn has a upkeep spell that allows something to go faster.
Magnus with running jacks and then feating to move forward again.

Skorne has stuff like:
pMakeda: savagery.
eMakeda: road to war.
pMorghoul: +2 to beast sped.
Gladiator: +2 Spd animi
Battle Plan: press forward.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Vindictus can speed up warrior models something fierce with True Path as he increases their
movement AND grants them pathfinder. I forget the exact wording though as I've been on
a trollblood kick.

The Hordes faction Circle is also really fast, and would be an ever greater divergence from Ret by switching over to the Fury mechanic.
