So I have finally decided that playing vanilla marines was too stressful, and I am selling up
And I am now an ork!
I have the assault on black reach orks and around £50 (something like $75, but dont quote me on that), and I have a budding question to all the ork Waaagh's out there, what should I get next.
Strange as it is, I would like a fair amount of firepower while still having a bit of a punch when I Waaagh into the enemy, so can anyone tell me what to get next?
Oh and predominantly infantry and fast vechiles would be nice too, but feel free to advise in and way you please

More boyz! You'll need at least 60, so get buying! After that, if you like fire power, why not consider Lootas? 2-3 boxes of those should fill those Elites slots nicely.
After that point, you really need to decide what kind of list you want to build. I would suggest looking for Dashofpepper's extensive post on this topic, as he outlines the basic themes very well.

You can never have enough boyz. Keep buying, building and painting boyz until you've forgotten that you even have anything else in your codex. You will then reach waaaughvana. Only once you have achieved enlightenment can you comprehend the other options available to orks other than boyz.
Unless you want to like run a kan wall or a battlewagon army, or something.

Get tons of Boyz, and then convert, convert convert.
The best thing about Orks is that you can field any sort of heavy weapon variant, then claim that it's a Deffgun (Lootas), Burna (Burnas/Kommadoz), or a Kommando weapon, and so on.
Don't worry about buying tons of the ripoff boxes (ie Lootas/Burnas/Kommadoz).
Buy the high value Boyz boxes, then one box of Nobz for all the bits you get (not to mention the extra nobz to help you build your first Nobz squad).
That's how I started, and eventually, I found what I wanted to use, and converted it accordingly.
You might want to go Trukks. You might want to go 3-4 Wagons. You might want to go Killa Kan wall.
Whatever you do (with the exception of an all bike army), you need Boyz! If you're looking for a cheap option until you figure out what you want, get a few Boy boxes, then carefully look at what comes in what sprue box, or just check the Dakka Swap Shop for some bits
Also, FYI, Boyz can be fielded as "Shoota Boyz" or "Slugga Boyz". The former gets an 18" gun, and the latter gets an extra close combat attack. Just make the models look however you want.
99% of people (including most tournies) will let you use Orks with pistols as Shootas, as long as every Boy on the board is the same type (which you will most likely do).

Ah, another greenhorned greenskin. Warms my heart/digestive organ.
Ork army-on-the-cheap shopping list (assuming basic tools and supplies are already available):
- AoBR orks (check!)
-MOAR BOYZ
-greenstuff (if you don't already have it)
-plasticard (even if you already have some, you'll probably want more)
Those things, combined with found/scrounged items and your bits box, are enough to field a horde/green tide style army. More extensive gubbin-hunting, ingenuity, and plasticard work can net you some vehicles to go for Speed Freaks.
Remember, orks have some of the best value kits GW makes. As was mentioned, boys give you a decent number of models for your money. Nobs come with enough bits to customize the whole squad heavily, then snazz up a dozen boys, beyond that. If you plan to buy a loota/burna box, keep some unbuilt boys laying around, as you can pop the unused deffgun/arms or burnas/tanks onto a standard boy's head/torso/legs and suddenly that seemingly expensive kit became much more reasonable. If you only want one type, there are others in the same boat - either buy their spares and slap them on your boys or buy the kit and sell/trade off your bits. If all else fails, gubbins for conversion!
Welcome to the WAAAGH!

Check ebay for Aobr boyz, they aren't as pretty, you don't get the nob, or all the heavy weapons (I believe) but 18-20$ will get you 20 boyz or so. So just talking volume that's the cheapest route.
I would agree that you should get at least one nob box.
KFF big mek is a must buy too, valuable in almost any list (unless you want to convert).

Check with some FLGS too. Sometimes they have open-box items the storeowner took apart himself and sells at a greatly discounted price from the individual boxsets. A local one here sells AoBR boyz for a buck each, with all the weapons intact. Nobz go for just a little more.

Buy/make Battlewagons with Deff Rollas. It's the only AV14 you get, and the Rolla (same cost as a PK) gets D6 Str 10 hits against whatever you're tank shocking/ramming (the situation permits it, obviously). The tactic I'll roll with (herr, I made a pun), is two or three wagons with red paint, a rolla, and a few ablative big shootas. Yay! You now have a rolling box of death, capable of holding 20 pissed off Boyz (with a Nob, PK, etc) inside. For hilarity, make a 19 man squad of Boyz. With the space you have, toss a Big Mek with a KFF inside.
Now, said box of death is getting a 4+ cover save, which extends 6" from the hull of your death box. That being done, get a pack of 20 gretchen and a Shokk Attack Gun. You now have covering fire from your only decent AP2 gun that shoots 60" (I think? Maybe 72? I only have my BT codex nearby, sadly).
Maybe tote around a Deff Dread or two with a pair of DCCW each, that also benefit from the cover save of your KFF (if close enough). Last but not least, have two squads of 15 Lootas. Str 7, AP4. Can shoot three rounds per model, if you roll right. 60 Str 7 shots--pretty decent, although you'll only hit a third of the time on average.
It's basically an "--OH SHI-, THEY'RE SHOOTING AT ME, OH GOD THOSE WAGONS ARE POPPING MY VEHICLES NOW THEY'RE ASSAULTING ME, WHYYYY" list.

Depends on what you want to run. BW spam? Kult of Speed? Green Tide?
With Orks, pick a focus and stick with it. Don't run footslogging boys paired with Mech, etc. Once you decide what to do, then start buying from there.
As a word of advice though, two general types of lists are, more or less, regarded as the most competitive options. Kan Wall, and Battlewagon Rush.
The former uses 3 squads of 3 Kans leading several squads of 30 Boys, all covered by a Big Mek with a Kustom Force Field. The KFF makes the Kans obscured, and obscured vehicles get a 4+ cover save. Having the Kans up front gives the boyz behind a 4+ cover save, and prevents the Boyz from being assaulted. This list is often paired with Kommandos/Snikrot to urge your opponent to deploy closer to your lines.
The Battlewagon Rush is 3+ BWs covered by a KFF, often featuring other mobile elements such as Deffkoptas or Warbuggies with Rokkits. KFF Mech covers the vehicles, and Ghazkhull Thraka is also present, giving the Orks a 6" fleet the turn they disembark. Highly mobile, highly deadly.
In general though, I'd say you need more Boyz, a KFF Mech, and vehicles. If you want to run Mech, get Battlewagons. If you want to run footslogging, get Kans (the new models are sickkkkkk).
Cheers!

Really I say boyz obviously, but also just start building some vehicles and play around with different play styles. Itll help alot more if you play with some people that will allow your slugga boyz to be shoota boyz instead, that way you can try to 2 main Orky builds.
But I can tell ya, that boyz, nobs and a battlewagon or 2 will be the biggest parts in your armies. I seem to take at least 2 of those in every game I play. And ALWAYS put a PK on boy mobs nobs. Thats just what you do with them, dont ask questions Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh yea, welcome to the Horde

+ 1 to this.
I never take less than 2 BW in my lists...and thats when Im scimping to try some new thing out...take 3 or 4 if you can afford it. A nob wagon, burination wagon, and 2 shoota boy wagons all tricked out w rollas, armor, and a few other essential upgrades will make your opponent sweat...he has to figure out which is more of a threat...and he probably wont get em all before your in his face, for added fun I also throw in 2 trukks (only cause i only have 2 but once I get more there will be more!)

Another way to save money/make the most out of the sprues you buy is to buy the Grethin box. The Grot Prod option can be kit bashed to make a KKF for a Big Mek. Use one of the Nobs from AoBR and the grot prod and presto - Big Mek with KKF. I clipped mine in two and glued them to the tops of his shoulder pads.
