I sold off all my Dark Eldar about 6 months back in anticipation of this day. Now finally, I get to reconstruct everything from scratch.
Since the new models aren't available yet, I'm starting with models that I'm going to have kitbash. For starters, the new Wrack units. I've broken out my bitzboxes, and combined them into the following monstrosities. There's bits and pieces from High Elf Spearmen, Dark Elf Spearmen, Dark Eldar Warriors, Warhammer Zombies, classic Warhammer Skeletons, Forgrworld Renegades, and more!

I'm going to be honest and say I'm not a fan mate. You've almost exclusively used Eldar/Elf bits, from outdated sets no less. The soldiers don't look like mutated or surgically altered monstrosities at all, they just look like kitbashed elves with some strange birth defects!
My advice is to wait for the new plastic kits to come available to provide heads, weapons etc. Then choose a suitably mutatated kit (I recommend the WHFB vampire counts ghouls, which all have twisted spines and such) to use as the base, and give them DE weapons/heads/accessories.
Sorry if that is a negative or dispiriting observation. I just think you've chosen the wrong components. These look like mismatched fantasy elves. I think the base models need a more mutated looks, and the bits and weapons should provide a stronger dark eldar feel. Hope that helps.

That's fair enough, I can actually see what you mean there.
I have to account for the following however:-
1:- All the fluff said that I can remember was slightly mutated DE.
2:- I reckon they'll look slightly better when painted.
3:- I'm forking out lots on other De units on release, and as a student, can't really afford too much new stuff.
4:- They were constructed solely from what was lying at the bottom of my bitz box, and
5:- They multitask as another unit in my lost and damned army.
But thanks for the input anyway. I'll probably do what you suggest, as soon as it becomes financially viable. Make no mistake, I can see they aren't great, but they'll be the best I can lay my hands on till next year. As such, I'll have to make do!

All of them having the skirt legs hurts the models a lot. they dont look like Dark eldar. Eldar are thin and have lithe limbs. Normal dark eldar are not really mutated physically, remember they are not chaos and dont like the chaos pantheon. They are more mentally twisted, they consume other being souls to keep from the clutches of slanesh.
I would use normal eldar guardian legs. With dark elf heads and they need guns. They are too fantasy and not enough, well really not at all, sci fi.
The spears and the skirts hurt the models the most. There are not many units in 40k that use spears and if they do they probably are mounted (shining spears, death riders etc). And i cant think of any 40k unit that uses a armored skirts.
Overall i would loose the skirts if favor of defined legs, of a thiner variety. Loose the spears in favor of swords or smaller had weapons; or cut them down to more of an axe shape, though spears for Incubi would be appropriate. The ghoulish arms would be good for mandrakes but bad for normal dark eldar guys. And on the old school dark eldar heads i would trim down the goofy sized spikes, not all the way off but they are far too large.
The guy on the front center right, with two blades on his arms is great (except the weighty skirt) same goes for the front center right. They make good dynamic Wyche like models.
Im not sure what Wracks are or what they are supposed to look like so maybe all this critique is off base. Also dont take this as discouragement kitbashes are the best and i enjoy them a lot.

Ketara,
Why did sell off your old Dark Elves? Heresy! You will rue that day! Like a god, you assembled them, primed them, painted them, breathed life into their little plastic and metal bodies, and THEY DIED FOR YOUR PLEASURE! Food, beer, and smokes are not more important as your troops. Well maybe beer is.
You could have saved the old troops for proxies until you bought prettier troops. Then you could have built an unusual Dark Eldar Apocalypse army, that would have been the envy of all were lucky enough to cast their monkey eyes upon their fearsome prescence.
Buy them back and use them again or sell them to me at cut rate prices.
I really like some of those kitbashes alot, but I agree on that the ugly mutant ones lose the theme. Paint them up already.

Just for those unsure, Wracks are meant to be Dark Eldar who've been mutated into a much tougher form. So basically DE on steroids, with a little chaos style mutation. They carry two close combat weapons, and no guns.
And I sold off my old Dark Eldar because the old models are horrible. My paintjob was done when I was 14, and I figured it was time for a fresh start.

I think the skirts are really the biggest problem. They add to much volume and weight to the models. Other than that, they will probably work pretty well. Some skinny guardian legs as previous suggested will probably be just about perfect to give that lean but still imposing look. (That, and I hate the cone helmets, but that's just me I think )
I heartily recommend the ghoul box though. More arms and heads than you will likely use (lots more arms) and everything is useful. I have gone through 3-4 boxes making my LatD and still find uses for bits in stuff. Just 1 box is a really good investment all around.
