I remember in the 3rd edition of the Imperial Guard codex there was a vehicle upgrade for 'Crew escape hatch' or somesuch i propose we bring it back.
Here are a few gameplay suggestions.
- 5pts (for imperial guard at least).
- If 'destroyed: wrecked' result rolled, or indeed achieved. Escape roll may be made.
- Roll to determine amount of crew to escape. D3 for transports (chimera/valkyrie) and Chimera Chasis artilley. D3+1 for MBTs or artillery with Leman Russ chasis. D3+3 for Superheavies.
- If at least one, non fleeing, crewman survives a quarter of the tank's victory points can be reclaimed or the Killpoint denied.
- 'Automatic go to ground' on entry within 2" of wrecked tank.
- Identical stats to Guardsmen.
C and C plus variants on the rule extremely welcome!!!

Well, the old option wasn't used much at all. Basically, you're paying a lot of points to possibly get a really sub-par IG squad, and only get it sometimes.

But, with the denial of a kill point, this might be a good option. So, its definitely worth playtesting to get the point cost nailed down.

Check out the Tau upgrade on their escape hatch for some ideas.

Also, to simplify things, I'd suggest all vehicles getting a single D3 crew to escape. Superheavies could get more, but 40k doesn't really cover superheavies at all, so don't worry about them.

Will edit it's cost to 5pts i think. To make it a 'point filler'.

5pts seems too low to me. Unless you drop the kill point denial.

Maybe 15 pts would be best?

I like the idea, but think it should be more for superheavies (IIRC they have literally dozens of crew). Also, would they be veterans with BS 4? What about upgrades like Commissariat Crew? Oh this is going to be fun.

Making mech better is bad. Make it be a forced action to add in another killpoint onto cheap chimeras and rhinos.
