Hey all. Several people pointed out to me that my recent Tankbusta' Nob could do with some more work on the rockets. I completely agree, but I'm not quite sure how.

While it seems obvious now where to shade and highlight on more straight edge objects and skin again is no problem, but how does one shade and highlight a cylinder?

I have tried painting a simple line for the higlight and shadowed the underside, but it doesn't really look right.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated as I have a lot of rockets to paint on the rest of the Tankbusta squad.

Here's my recent efforts ar rocket painting:

It all depends on what you want to do. If you're going for a specific light source, then I would take a desk lamp or other light, and use that to determine where highlights should be applied.

Many painters, myself included, do not strongly consider lighting when painting. It's easier to simply highlight edges such as on the face, cloth, etc, and it still looks great on the table. I assume this is your approach based on what I'm seeing. In this case, I typically would use a pattern such as checks, smiley face, different colored warheads, etc to help the rockets stand out.
