Subject: Buying warhammer 40k from different countries?

Okay so I have been thinking about this for a very long time. With GW raising prices in the US and the US dollar going down in it's worth my friends and I think we could save money by buying warhammer 40k in different countries (my friends have particularly suggested russia) so what does everyone here on dakka think? Good idea, bad idea? Or should I try and purchase from somewhere other than russia (and where can I purchase 40k in russia or whatever other countries you may suggest?) Also we want to order from other countries because if this works for the better we would want to let other know about this, and the hope is by essentially boycotting their sales in the US they will lower prices in the US (probably wouldnt have high hopes for the lowered prices but hey we have to start somewhere right?) Hope to hear from everyone soon

Doesn't sound like too bad an idea save for one thing. Overseas shipping is a -killer- and you might actually save money by buying domestic just because of the cost in getting it here.

Hmm, I didn't really consider the factor of overseas shipping, how bad is it? Well on the bright side at least most of us (if not all) agree that finding ways to save is definately a good idea yet the issue is it's too expensive to really buy domestic to begin with I mean while inflation rises GW raises prices they seriously are milking the working class whom play this game for all the expendable cash they have it really isnt right, I mean with how much do you truly think it is to actually produce these models? I'm willing to bet it's way cheaper to produce and ship these models then for the matinence on the machines that make them

It really depends on weight and volume, as well as what country. Could be around $10, but I've had a few items [Not GW] push up to around $30ish. Doesn't mean your plan won't work as much as you'll have to shop around and compare shipping costs because it's a much greater consideration when buying overseas. In my experience, about $10 or $15 will get you shipping that will take...frakking forever to arrive.

Hmm that is true, and mostly that is the biggest issue which is how am I going to be able to afford to continue with 40k? I mean it's either expensive shipping (which makes domestic purchase much more viable) or going to an independent retailer (which sells their product for cheaper, however if the product you purchased was missing peices or damaged for some reason GW will pretty much say tough gak shoulda bought from us and this has happened before)

Based on the Games Workshop website, the UK has the lowest prices(after exchange rate). I've looked into ordering from Wayland Games . It sells cheaper then GW prices, and even with (estimated) shipping costs, it still ends up cheaper(at least here in Canada, not sure about shipping to the US)

Unfortunately I don't think this would be a more viable option for me, between shipping and the lowering of what the USD is worth I'm kinda iffy on that idea, however it is something I will consider and look into

I've never had that problem. GW replaced a box of minis for me the other day, despite the fact that it was purchased from a third party.

Thats what I tend to do too. I go for the cheapest basic shipping Ends up taking like a good month to get to me, but its so damn cheap!

Maelstrom is really good value. While the website itself says 10% off, when comparing the actual exchange rate, I'm actually getting it for 30% off domestic prices, and shipping's free. However, I usually get charged for customs, which makes up the difference from what I actually save. I'm not familiar with the Custom checks of other countries, but the one in canada has frustrated me alot.

Wow that is really damn good, but now I'm even more iffy on this. If the customs checks in canada are frustrating you then they will be hell on earth in the US

ask about customs from wherever you're trying to purchase from. Maelstrom answered me saying that they never had a problem with customs before, and they dont charge taxes here (which is 13%, something that I did not account into the 30% discount I already get). Certain sites like Amazon have the customs fee included in the invoice, so you wont get hidden fees.
