I dont have the rules with me so i am working from memory....

The Shadowsword can replace it's lascannons with targetters to get BS4.

But it can also have extra sponsons including a lascannon and either HB or H flamer as well.

So. Can i replace the original Lascannons with targetters, then pay the extra points to get another set of sponsons but keep the lascannons on them? Thus giving my tank lascannons with BS4?

Or, have 4 lascannons at BS3, which is better.

Well i actually built it a coupel of years ago before the current rules came out. So i woudl be adding 2 sponsons to an already built tank.

You get BS4 H bolters as well, which can help i guess!

The newest rules that I have, IA Apoc 2008, doesn't give those options. It comes with HB sponsons with targeters, and no option to add additional sponsons.

I think they're working either from the Apocalypse reloaded rulebook or the datasheet that appeared in white dwarf a while back, in which case these options are available.

The Targeters are also useful as increased balistic skill will help reduce scatter from the main gun if I'm correct. And that extra inch can sometimes be the difference between a unit dying and it not all dying

Keep the Lascannons. RAW wise, you can take the Targeter upgrade first, then take the extra Lascannons, which will give you 2 BS4 Lascannons. Also, if you're using the Volcano Cannon to target heavy armour such as Super-Heavies, then the extra inch of reduced scatter won't really matter, as the size of the vehicles usually ensure that even if it scatters, you still are over the vehicle, and with Destroyer weapons, even if the hull is slightly grazed it still affects them.

Even IA1 Update(the most complete current rules for the Shadowsword) lists the Targeter as an available upgrade.

Also not that it does not state that you may replace all Sponson lascannons, only that you "replace Sponson lascannons"; and then it gives you the option for additional Sponsons(which happen to include lascannons)

Also: it is a flat BS upgrade, so ALL weapons benefit, including the volcano cannon(and anything else that might use the BS of the model in the future).

I was going by the recent dtatasheets that came out with the plastic kit. not sure if that is more recent than IA1 (i dont have any of the IA books).

IA1 Update(available as a free download from Forgeworld's website) is more recent than when the kits came out.

As is the Datasheets on the GW website.
