Hi all it's been a while since my last post but i am asking for your oppinons. In Swindon the stores have stoped all experienced players coming in on sunday. They have 3-4 tables and it was fine for 5-6 years (since ive been in the hobby) bar the last 6 weeks and say they need ALL for the tables for begginers. can they actualy do this and is it simmiler with other stores accross the UK and the rest of the world.

Thanks
Mordian

Its not uncommon in my experiance for Sundays to be set aside for tutorials for begginers.
Think about it this way: if you were just starting out in the hobby, learning the rules as such you don't want to be playing a veteran who is easily going to table you. (Although at some point this will need to happen) Rather you want to be able to play other people your own level at first in a 'safe' and 'friendly' environment.
Also, if the staff members are trying to teach lots of newbies they may need the tables for space to ensure all players get some table time rather than sitting around doing nothing.

I have to ask though, when you say "stopped all experienced players coming in on a sunday" do you mean 'coming in and playing' or 'can't enter the store at all?' The former seems reasonable, the later absurd

The store manager technically can do what they like. Sundays in all the stores I've frequented tend to be beginners games only.

It seems fair enough tbh

The local GW stores have Wednesday evening sessions for vet gamers.
There are complaints from some quarters about having pesky newbie kids around, so sepearting the sessions seems a sensible solution.

The store in Swindon has always let other players come in on sundays but now they've stopped us. I understand there are beginners but they seemed to have faired quite well before.
Why should this change as this is the only day many people can get to GW so really its a way GW are losing there experienced players.

Is this only happening in the UK stores?

While there have not been many responses to the thread so far, they have all been from the UK.

It may have something to do with child protection.
I'm not sure if staff require CRB checks and iirc there was talk about relaxing the CRB checks so I am probably way off beam here.

IIRC Thurrock has set Sunday aside as being a beginner day, don't quote me on that though, as I haven't had a chance to get down there recently

I've been asked to give up a table before, but they're very polite about it.

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?

Shiver....Games Workshop on a sunday...hordes of children snapping apart models with thier bare hands and slathering them in paint without a basecoat...why would you want to go there on a sunday!

And that's from a not very good painter or modeller!

I'll be totally honest, I've not actually been to the Swindon store in years out of fear of being recognised more than anything else, lol. Been told by a few friends that used to play the store has been very much kiddified which is also offputting. Surprised to see 2 more Swindonites posting on here though - was thinking of making a post about looking for games but been a bit timid about it.

Where do you guys play if not at the local GW?
