Do space marines have both defensive and assault grenades? If yes, where in the codex is it mentioned? I'm new to warhammer

that is a general question since not all space marines have offensive and defensive grenades...to find out if a unit does have them look in the army list section of your codex and not the "forces of the space marines" section. there it will tell you a list of all wargear the unit has in addition to any other options available

Look in the section that lists the units with their cost (the army list). As far as I know, no space marines have defensive grenades (Nurglers maybe?). Codex marines have assualt grenades and krak (anti-vehicle) grenades.

Go back to the section of the codex with point costs and the big boxes with stats and equipment listed. Part of the equipment listed for a squad includes grenades if they have them. Frag grenades are assault grenades (I forget if you look in the wargear section or main book to know this), krak grenades are light anti-vehicle grenades (look at the rules for using grenades against vehicles in the main book), and melta bombs are heavy anti-vehicle grenades (same section as krak). No regular marines have defensive grenades that I can think of, certainly none of the base squads, while all (or almost all, there's probably 1 exception) marines in power armor carry frag and krak grenades as standard equipment now.

In older editions frag and krak grenades were an add-on, so any marine variants using an old codex (like Black Templars or Grey Knights) won't have them automatically.

So, to reiterate, Marines do not have defensive grenades.

AFAIK, only Tau fire warriors and IG veterans can get defensive grenades.

There's just an acre of you fellas, isn't there?

Nope, plasma grenades are assault grenades. No Eldar unit has access to defensive grenades.

In one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 6", kill a few guys with his flamer, assault 6", kill two more guys with his bayonet, flee 12", regroup when assaulted, react 6", kill one more guy with his bayonet and then flee another 12".
So in one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 42" and kill more than 5 people. At the same time a Chimera at top speed on a road can move 18"...

Yup Plague Marines (CSM) have frag, krak, and blight grenades. Offensive, defensive, and weak AV all base on each PM,
