In all of my efforts to kill boredom with more 40K, I read some background on the Death Guard and decided doing something with Pre-Heresy Death Guard, so without further ado:

H.Q.

Lysander -200

Elites

Sternguard 10x
6 Combi-meltas -280

Troops

Tactical Squad 10x
Flamer, Lascannon, Power Fist on Sgt. -205

Tactical Squad 10x
Flamer, Lascannon, Power Fist on Sgt. -205

Tactical Squad 10x
Flamer, Lascannon, Power Fist on Sgt. -205

Tactical Squad 10x
Flamer, Lascannon, Power Fist on Sgt. -205

Heavy Support

Thunderfire Cannon -100

Thunderfire Cannon -100

Total: 1500

This list is really just for funzies and thematic battles. Figured with it being Pre Heresy Death Guard and their preclusion to having no armor I'd go with Footsloggers. The Thunderfires are for anti-horde, the Sternguard walk with Lysander for fun times in the opposing lines...ya know its all for fun.

I'd drop the Fist on the sterns to be legal. Then add in 2 more combis. Not too keen on foot lysander but I suppose bolter drill sterns arent half bad

Mortarion also taught his disciples to fight in rhinos, so you're allowed to include some of that.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

@kenshin

Dropping the Power Fist seems logical, especially with Lysander in the unit...I'll probably go that route

@Mecha

This is true; however, if I was going to run metal boxes I would probably do it with Space Wolves as they have more abilities with their assault weapons...not to mention, I have a mean hankering for some foot slogging action.

I'll drop the Power Fist and add in 2 more combi weapons on the Stern Guard.

I'd actually say that Wolves, if you don't take certain options, would make great Pre-Heresy Death Guard, since they come with Counter-Attack and the BP/CCW/Bolter trifecta.

This is true...wanted to have Stubborn running through the whole army...if I were to go with Wolves I would probably go with the following:

H.Q.

Ulrik -180
I'll explain soon enough

Elites

Wolf Guard 5x
4x Power Fists, Arjac -335

Troops

Grey Hunters 10x
2x Melta, Power Fist, Wolf Standard, Mark of the Wulfen -205

Grey Hunters 10x
2x Melta, Power Fist, Wolf Standard, Mark of the Wulfen -205

Grey Hunters 10x
2x Melta, Power Fist, Wolf Standard, Mark of the Wulfen -205

Grey Hunters 10x
2x Flamer, Power Fist, Wolf Standard -185

Grey Hunters 10x
2x Flamer, Power Fist, Wolf Standard -185

Total:1500

Absolutely no ranged firepower other than the Meltas and all...Arjac and Ulrik go with 2 of the front line units. Arjac Confers Stubborn, Ulrik allows Leadership to be re-rolled if there's line of sight (almost as good as being stubborn?)

I went with all power fists as I can see Death Guard just being relentless as hell and being so intent on breaking down their enemy over time that the Power Fists would be preferable...could be fun and brutal in Hand to Hand Combat.
