Hey Dakka,
I'm teaching a new player how to play, and she's interested in starting a Tyranid army so I helped her point up a 1850 list. C&C needed as I don't play 'nids, all I know is forum-talk that I've read.

I think the gant broods are a bit too big. Drop devourers on them and lower them to 20-25. That should give enough points to get another trygon and/or make a few of them primes. If possible get the tervigons scythes. CLuster Spines is also good for them

13 models is too low of a model count for gargoyles imo. You need around 20 or so for them to shine. Also slap em with toxin sacs and possibley the adrenal glands. Super cheap upgrades and it turns them into raw killing machines.

Toxin Sacs on the Trygon? WHYYYYYYYY?

Srsly.

As for everyone advocating dropping the Devourers off the Gants.... sure it makes them cheaper, but if you want your basic troops to do ANYTHING all game, throwing Devourers on them gives them a solid chance of doing so. 10 DevGants put out 30 shots a turn!

I likw the above list adjustment, but I think if you drop the Toxin Sacs off the Trygon, Shrink the Gant squad sizes down, and give them Devourers, you'll actually find your basic troops contributing on non-objective holding games.

Started wargaming with heroscape. Who says kids can't be generals?

i like the toxin sacs for the rerolls to wound on anything t6(t7 on the charge) and lower...

mephiston, other nid big guys, and those pesky 1s that always pop up when assaulting terminators. its 10 points to reroll wounds, thats why i take them.

I think you're playing it wrong. Toxin sacs give poisoned 4+, when your strength is equal to or greater to their toughness you get a re-roll on that 4+ to wound roll.With adrenal glands, toxin sacs hurts it against anything t5 or less on the charge (.75 wounds per hit with toxin sacs vs .83 wounds per hit without).

In terms of the list in General, I think it's a good start. I like having tervigons in troops to make them scoring. Maybe you could find room for a Prime with lashwhip and bone swords?

hmm perhaps i am reading it wrong, i took it to mean i would never need more than a 4+ to wound, but could would on a 2/3+ if my str was high enough...
