As some of you all may know, I am working on a 1,000 point Tau army. Now, I have built up a list, and I need some brutally honest criticism of this list...

HQ
Shas'el with M.Pod, Plasma Rifle, Multi-tracker=77 points

Elites
3 XV8 Crisis suits, each carrying a Plasma Rifle, a M.Pod, and a Multi-Tracker =186 points
2 XV8 Crisis suits, 2 Twin Linked Flamers each =70 points

Troops
2 units of 9 Fire warriors, each in a Devilfish =340 points, 170 each

Fast Attack
8 Pathfinders in a Devilfish =176

Heavy
2 Broadsides =140 points

A lot of people don't take that many crisis suits in one squad. You could just buy another crisis commander and take three for elites. That equal more KPs, but you don't always play KPs. This way a battle cannon won't ruin your day, and they're easier to hide behind stuff. You could upgrade one flamer on the two flamer suits to twin-linked for 2 pts each.

Ok, first thing, you can't take two of any of the same type of whatever on crisis battlesuits. So, you can't have two flamers, and you can't even have a flamer and a TL flamer together, so you need to fix that.

Also, cut back on a Devilfish. Let a unit of firewarrios take your pathfinders devilfish. Your pathfinders won't need it for one, and railguns are heavy, so you can't shoot them as soon as you disembark. That will save 80 pts right there.

I would use some of those to make your 2 Flamer suits into legal BC/Fl/MT suits, thus filling roughly the same function, just with Burst Cannons now.

With the leftover points, I would get your broadsides A.S.S. I would get your 3-man crisis suit unit a leader and BK. I would also upgrade your devilfish with SMS / Targ. Array / Multi Tracker/ Disruption Pods

That should come out about even.

Whichever they are, I'm not on the Reich ones, clearly.

I'm not sure where you, TheBringer, are getting your info from, but you're wrong (did I miss that the OP was edited? *looks* Nope. ). There's a listed cost for Twin-Linking flamers. That said, Tim, I'd *not* go that route. Instead try another pair of FireKnives (PR/MP/MT) or FireStorms (BC/MP/MT)or Deathrains (Twin-Linked MPs). *And* your TL-Flamer suits don't need MTs to shoot the TL-Flamers, as they count as one wep system.

Dispod at the least, but I play my 'fish like TheBringer has recommended: SMS, Target Array, Multi-Tracker, DisPod.

What 3rd system? Add Shield Drones!

He said two flamer each, not TL flamers, and he also included a multi-tracker. This led me to the conclusion that he was trying to use two individual flamers because you don't need a multi-tracker to fire a TL weapon, and because he didn't say TL.

Also, Tim, how did you get 80 points for the crisis suit unit with flamers anyways???

No matter how I combined the elements (with how erekose and I saw the 2 flamers), I could not get over 76 points or so.

I see your point, TB. A reasonable conclusion, given what Tim typed. And you mentioned being tired. Or was that another thread?

D'oh! Sorry about including the MT on the flamer suits! I fixed that...

Hmmm, all of these abbreviations are confusing me. Could you guys just type out the whole name?

Giving the Devilfish a Smart Missile System sounds good. I may drop that extra 'fish, saves me points.

Taking a pair of Deathrains sounds pretty good (Deathrains have twin linked Missile Pods, right?). Adding shield drones to my Broadsides is a good idea. I guess I better go rives my list!

You start well and at this point it all goes down the toilet:

2 XV8 Crisis suits, 2 Twin Linked Flamers each =70 points

This squad is illegal as they've not got their 3rd hardpoint filled, same issue arrises for the Broadsides.

Flamer suits are not a good idea. Run them as missilepod suits with a flamer taking the final HP if you want flamers in the army.

All your devilfish should have disruption pods all the time. The best value for money upgrade in the codex! I'd also dump one of the fishes as the pathfinders don't need theirs so let one of the FW squads ride in it.

You lack anti-horde fire power and suiciding 2 suits with flamers doesn't change that. You don't need 8 MLs firing at 1 target at this point level I'd reduce that squad or split it in 2 (thus removing both the FW devilfishes).

Though without kroot or a positional relay your army seems to lack any response to turn 1 assaulters except to fall over and die...
