Subject: Commissar Costume?

So with Halloween only a week away, an idea struck me for something I would really want to do. Now, I can't do it for this Halloween but there are random dressup days, and always next year, but I was considering working with a friend to try and make a Commissar costume for me.
I was wondering if anyone on dakka knew good places online to buy things for it? The overcoat looks like it'll be relatively simple, but the shirt under it (think the Power Sword and Plasma Pistol commissar model) seems like it'd be more difficult, and the hat would be interesting. So, dakka...what say you?
P.S. I'm guessing this is the right place to put this.....this or 40k Discussions.

I'd PM him.

And that is exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks Ailaros. I really need to get better about this 'finding threads' thing..

Did a quick google search for uniform type items, and came up with a few things.
Napoleonic Era British jackets:
http://www.sutlers.co.uk/acatalog/Corporate_Museum_Work.html
Though, seeing as this has been done at least a few times, you could go abit more "over the top" you could go for a Lord Commissar look:
http://www.ima-usa.com/product_info.php/cPath/1_180/products_id/1124
Granted, with a bit more searching you could find those things for abit cheaper, but its a start (and who could really scoff at your Commissar outfit if you had Genuine Military regalia on??)

There is a paper folding technique known as Pepakura. Sci-fi costumers use it to make replica armours for Halo, Star Wars, Ironman and that kind of thing. There are a few patterns available for 40k, including a bolt pistol. It looks fairly easy once you get the hang of it and there are numerous guides and examples on the 405th website and forums if you search there.
Also cosplay.com has a small section on 40k costumes.
For a commisar, some kind of leather trenchcoat and a soviet officers cap dyed black would be a good start. Maybe find some of those old aquila badges they used to sell or modify some of the Forgeworld brass etch kits?

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money. |
