Subject: pGaspy 35 Tournament List

Fanatic with Madcap Mushrooms

Hey guys, Leech again.
So finally, officially this past Friday (the 22nd, for those of us who like calendar dates), I purchased all of my 35 point Cryx list. I've always thought of Warmachine as a full-iron no holds barred competitive game (While still maintaining a friendly and sportsmanlike social atmosphere) and tournaments were the main reason I decided to play WM.
Anyway, here's my list, and I'd like to get some honest feedback.
Iron Lich Asphyxious +6
Seether
Deathripper
Deathripper
Defiler
10 Mechanithralls
6 Bane Knights
6 Bile Thralls
Pistol Wraith
So it's not really into Debuffs, which is something I miss with pDenny, but the list is meant to be flexible and take on all-comers. Any and all criticisms, if based in logic rather than bias, would be appreciated. However, I'd also like to take a special note on Retribution, who are the only faction I don't really understand, and I've heard scary things about them. Also, I was wondering if replacing the Seether with a Slayer to take Gorman Di Wulfe and a Machine Wraith or Necrotech. Sure, I lose out on all the cool Seether rules, but I really like Gorman. I'd like to stop spending my $$, but if the Slayer is that much better I might as well.

Personally I would drop the defiler. This gives some points for gorman and a second pistolwraith. Alternatively you could get a necrosurgeon and a pistolwraith. Or gorman surgeon and a machinewraith. Although the best alternative I can think of is warwitch and pistolwraith.
IMHO gaspy does not need the third node. He has enough going for himself. He does like to cast himself though, so a seether is less of a focusburden. The warwitch also lessens the load as she can powerboost the rippers if need be.

How many points would you have left if you dropped the Defiler for Gorman and a
Skarlok? I noticed that you didn't have a Skarlok. Any particular reason?

1 pt left (gorman and skarlock are both 1 point)
Skarlock does not have much to do IMHO. It can recast scything touch, but one of the offensive spells will leave him open to attack and probably death. Might be nice to cast a breath as defense though. Only thing is that it is hard to really steer where it should land.

I agree with LordRavurion about dropping at least one node.
You won't need 3 if you don't just throw them away.
Skarlock can cycle Scything Touch, but you only have 2 units where it can do the most good... in which case Gaspy can do that himself.
Skarlock can be flexible when you need to conserve focus, or want to cycle a 2nd or (crazy) 3rd Parasite, or want that extra Breath of Corruption.
But in this case, Gorman would be more consistant in performance.
Though, the skarlock and gorman are 1+1 points.
Seether is cool, the chain attack is nifty.
Though it's always in competitition with things like:
Wrong eye/snapjaw or Slayer/Warwitch.
Bane Knights are really cool, my favorite. Though they are lacking in a bit more support, like the lack of Tartarus or Wrathe.
Arm 16 looks tough, but they do go down pretty quickly if the opponent is actually afraid of them. Stuff like Chain Lighting and Dust to Dust and the like really suck for them.
McThralls I hear really good things. There is no Necrosurgeon for them, but it's ok, because they are already numerous and cheap.
The pistol wraith looks interesting if a bit out of place. It's another way you can lock down heavies and concentrate on breaking throught the midline to get to the caster and the bile thralls help much in this reguard, though with pGaspy, there are no defensive options for them and delivery is not as speedy as they'd want.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Hmm... some good thoughts here.
As for the Skarlock, he's really only a solid investment, IMHO, if the caster you've taken really needs those 2-3 focus points, and I really don't think he does.
I really want Gorman + Necrosurgeon + Machine Wraith over the Defiler, I'm not solid though. I'll run a few test games, to be sure.
Yeah, the Knights are a bit lacking in support, but I was thinking of using them in a support role themselves, wiping up after the Bile Thralls die or cease to be useful and Mechanithralls are absolutely run dry. I'd like to run Tartarus though, but it seems like he's public enemy number 1 on the table.
