I have my old SM force from over 4 years ago when I was 14.. >< Being 18 now I can understand the game & rules a lot better and want to get back into is as a few of my mates play and have some starter armies.
I wish to build a fun but serious force, and was wondering what kind could I build around my current force.
I bought the SM force of my mate who had AoBR so have all those units. I am currently repainting the whole army now.
I would like around a 2000~ point army. Able to play games around 1000-2000 points.
I will be getting a land raider redeemer (unless you convince me not to)

I currently have-

HQ
- Tigurius
- Chaplin in Termy armor
- x2 Captins

Elites
- x5 Terminators SB + PF
- dreadnaught w m/melter & melee fist
- Techmarine w/ x4 servitors

Troops
- x10 squad - flamer + R launcher
- x5 Scouts melee weaps w/ b pistols

Heavy
x1 Predator x2 H bolters & twin linked las cannon
x5 devastator squad, las cannon, plasma cannon, are launcher, h bolter

Fast attack
x5 jump pack squad
x4 bikers w/ melta gun & plasma gun & power weapon
x1 attack bike w/ m/melta

I have a few spare guys and could make a 5 man tactical squad if needed.

first off:

only 2 HQ allowed!

Where you're getting 4 HQ from I have no idea. do you have the SM Codex?

ELITES are ok... but the techmarine and servitors are a bit redundant. Outfit them with plasma cannons to make them pack a bit more punch if you really want them..

Troops....need a transport. combat squad the tac squad and put them in a rhino.

Scouts really don't do well in melee. Give them a missile launcher or hellfire shell heavy bolter.

FAST ATTACK: Take either assault marines in a ten man squad OR a bike squad fully kitted out. Don't leave both understrength.

HEAVY
Devastator squad: If you're set on devastators drop the predator and take a fully kitted out dev squad with 4 heavy weapons of the SAME weapon.

Tigirius- good choice. Join a squad of sternguard veterans- Use gate of infinity, pop up beside enemy, shoot with Vortex of doom, The avenger, and the boltguns.

LR redeemer- good choice.
Replace PF/SB termies with TH/SS ones. Which would you rather- a S8 I1 power weapon and a S4 assault 2 boltgun (pretty much), or a S8 I1 power weapon which Anything that survives becomes I1 next turn, and automatically shakes tanks, and a 3+ inv.? A lot more survivable and better in CC. storm bolter doesn't do much.

Chaplain- no. Get either a terminator captain with TH/SB (you already have a 4+ inv- 15 points is'nt worth it) or get lysander. He kills titans for fun. Put him with the termies in the LR and they're a tough nut to crack. Deploy 12" away, drive 12", fire inferno cannon, assault!

Deverstators- depends who you're up against. SM- plasma. Orks- Heavy bolters. IG- missile launchers. Mech army- lascannons.

JB: I like the concept of a free Shrike roaming through the treetops of the jungle. I'm not sure that I like the idea of a real Shrike sitting on my couch eating my Skittles.

Drop Pod Assault. You can have Tigurius, Captain and Command Squad in one pod, dreadnought in another and a melta tac squad dropping in on turn one....

Then another melta squad and flamer squad in turn 2.

Scouts can scout move close enough so that Terminators can DS in really close to enemy...

read his post, this is the units which he has atm. Not some list. I would advice you to start off with a 1k list. 5 Ed is all about mech so you seem to be lacking some transports. CC scouts can be nice with a LandSpeeder Storm as delivery system. Get them to help out your Drop poding Dread.

For a 1k list while including what you have to most extent I would probably go for something like this

Libby = 100 (Avenger and something else, at higher pts NullZone is a given)

Do not use Tigrius since he costs way to much and dies to a single PF hit.

Troops:
10xTacticals (ML+Flamer+Combi-Flamer) = 180
Razorback (Blades) = 45

5xScouts (PF+CombiMelta) = 110

Elites:
MM Dread (HF) = 115
Pod = 35

FA:
4xBikes (2xMG+MMAB) = 185

Heavy:
Predator (HB sponsons+ AC turret) = 85

Running a little low on troops so after getting the first RB I would advice you to get another Razorback and a tactical marines box.

ALWAYS buy the razorback box, NEVER buy the rhino box. The RB can be made into a rhino, the rhino can not be made into a RB.

Wait, a captain with artificier armour and relic blade?
Why not just have kosarro kahn? He doesn't have the bolter, but he has a load of special rules (including one for your bikes!)

True. Just assemble the Rhino as normal, and then glue on the turret-mount roof, not the rhino roof.

Because the OP only has ONE unit of bikes. and you lose combat tactics for Outflank and Hit and Run. Both of which don't suit either his list or my proposed one..

Khan has normal PA and a Power Weapon that can cause ID. He also needs to be on a moondraken for bikes to be considered troops.

I will now be getting that redeemer & razorback (convert to rhino, yes i know that trick.)

So ill give that new list a go. Thanks

A command squad at 305 points is ok in 2000 point games, maybe even a 1500 point if supported by say a pair of dreadnoughts.
Just remember your captain (if tooled up correctly to take maximum advantage of his 3 attacks and high WS) is going to cost you a minimum of 160 points.

Which means the overall unit will cost 465 points.....

That's a 1/3 of a 1000 point army, and a 1/4 of a 1500 point one.


Thing I don't like about this command squad is you're taking Thunder Hammers and Storm Shields with power armoured marines when you could get 5 TH/SS terminators for over 100 points less.

What I would suggest is a command squad and captain aimed towards taking out armour OR infantry, not both at once (Thunder Hammers are for infantry aren't they?)
