I am looking to try to get Malifaux played in my local area and would like a little advice.

As there is no one else who plays in my area (Essex, UK) that I know of I am going to buy a couple of the box sets and run some demo games to try to get people hooked, But I am having trouble deciding which sets to get.

My current plan is Lady Justice and the Red Chapel gang, is this going to be a one sided match up or should they be fairly even?

If that is a bad idea, what sets do people recommend?

While I'm not that experienced at Malifaux, they look like an alright pair. Both boxes are pretty strong, without having too many things that completely change the game (i.e. the Ortegas, where eveyone companions).

One thing I might be a little worried about is that Lady Justice has quite a few specifically anti-undead things, which might tip the power level a bit.

I've found that the best way to demo the game is with a Caster Crew and a Physical Damage Crew. On that note I usually use either the Ortega Gunslingers Box or the Mercenaries(Viktorias) Box as my Physical Damage Crew. I then use the Cult of December Box as my Caster Crew. These are three of the easiest crews for beginners to play. They use relativly straight forward abilities, while still highlighting some of the finer points of the game, as well as showing off the broad range of models in the Malifaux line-up.

During a demo I like to point out some of the things that make Malifaux unique, be sure to point out the use of the fate deck, and the "cheating" system. The conveniance of haveing a stat card for each model. The games low model count, as well as the fantastic quality of the models themselves. I also find it worthwhile to mention that new models are released every month.

If you haven't played the game much, I would suggest getting atleast one other person involved in the game with you before you begin doing demos. While there are a relativly low number of rules in the game there is alot of stratagey and finer points in the game that you need to learn to demo it properally.

Finally I suggest heading over to the Wyrd forums. They are a great resource for everything Malifaux. Before you begin I'd also recommend seeing if there is a Henchman in your area who may already have an established program.

I'm a Henchman, I'm Catyrpelius on the Wyrd forums btw.

Justice vs Redchappel is one-sided to the Justice side.

She has a lot of mostly passive anti-undead abilities. Her ability to remove corpse counters is especially brutal.

For beginners, the Redchappel skills are a bit tricky to get.

I would go with Ortegas, Viktorias, McMourning, and Ramos.
Each one has some fairly obvious ability usage, and/or a heavy hitter for the melee oriented.
Ortegas don't have the melee, but Papa Loco can be used as an attention magnet.

The land of cotton.

The Lady J crew has some very nice models. As suggested the Cult of December is a great started set for a caster crew and doesn't suffer too much at the hands of all the anti-undead stuff Lady J dishes out.

Its alot more difficult to field demo forces, there is alot more complexity and model interaction than most easily demoed games.

Well, I have been doing this same thing at my local gaming store also. The main points that I focus on in an effort to get people interested are pretty simple.
First, Malifaux is a smaller scale than something like 40k or Fantasy. This may be just me, but playing large scale 40k games (I play orks so I mean really large) gets dull after a while and Malifaux is a great change of pace. Secondly, emphasize the relatively low cost of playing Malifaux, you can play with a single boxed set. The use of cards is another good thing to advertise because its so different from all the dice based games, and sometimes different is interesting.
The main reason that I got into Malifaux is the wonderful models. There are so many different styles and types of well made miniatures that its hard not to find something cool. I got a friend of mine interested by just showing him the pictures in the rulebook. Another great thing about Malifaux is the sort of dark humor involved. What's not to laugh at about mad scientists, hillbilly gremlins, etc.?
Well that was a bit of a rant... Good luck to you though

I would call it a ramble, not a rant.

Not enough and anger to be a rant.
