Subject: Best method of removing old bases?

Hey everyone,
I think I've grown sick of my bases and would like to redo them army wide. I was wondering if anybody had any experience with this. I want to cause minimal paint damage so I was thinking I could fill a pan with a shallow amount of Simple Green just high enough to weaken the glue bond between the feet and bases, but maybe there's a better method I'm not thinking of.
Any suggestions?

Depends on how the bases are attached. If you just used super glue then you should just be able to break them off. If you used plastic glue your going to have to cut.

simple green wouldnt touch the glue, only harm the paint. I think that your best bet would be to freeze them (if they are superglued) or just try and cut them off. A much easier method that would kill the base though, would be to just cut the base off around the feet.

Super glue is what I'm dealing with. I thought simple green breaks down super glue bonds? Also I'd think freezing the models could potentially be a problem for other joints that are glued together.
Cutting seems like a decent option but definitely more time consuming. Might have to try a few different methods.

Freeze then snap works. Believe me, I've debased around 75 miniatures. If you want to use the base again, it will depend on what you put on it, but usually dipping it in water for a long while and/or freezing it then scraping it off with a knife works. Don't worry if it'll make the surface uneven, since you'll gonna put stuff to cover it anyway.

Violence is not the answer, but it's always a good guess. |

Simple Green does dissolve Superglue, but it's so miniscule that you'd be better off just cutting it (or getting a minimum wage job to purchase another model). I had one model disassembled after being dunked in Simple Green, but that was after almost a year of being submerged in the stuff (it was plastic. DO NOT LEAVE METAL MODELS IN THERE FOR THAT LONG), and I still need to apply a bit of force.
If it's a slotta base I tend to just snap it in half by pulling on it. If you are getting new bases for them, this is probably the easiest way (effective on Metal Models, but it's gonna be harder on plastic ones). If it's not a slotta model, just ram your hobby knife in between the feet and the base and wedge it free. As long as the soles of the feet wont be seen, it should be fine.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

If you're not going to reuse the bases then pliers & clippers followed by sanding / filing clean the feet.

If it's super glue freezeing and snapping works well. Just make sure they're in there long enough. I've never put them in water first though, do you just leave them in there for awhile hoping the glue will soak up the water?
