Just a thought that I haven't seen elsewhere...

Several armies have a fashion for "hammer of doom" units, y'know, that 600pt sink that can crump half an army left unchecked (1st one that springs to mind being a souped up land raider with assault termies + characters).

With the new "pain tokens" on DE, it seems like they are a very very obvious choice for this kind of thing; especially given that they were pretty good at it last time around. A souped up archon + Incubi will REALLY hurt most things in 40k (Incubi mobility notwithstanding) before tokens. After tokens they could be incredible.

Do you guys reckon we'll see a lot of this kind of unit from DE? Any plans to field one?

PS. I haven't got my mits on a DE codex so I could be missing something - no tokens on chars & incubi? Shove homunculus into the unit for a free token? etc... The point still stands however, will we see DE power lists using high-power game-changing units?

FNP is great but Incubi still only have a 3+ save (no Invul) and are T3. Sure, a arcon led Incubi squad will chop up most any unit - but then will be severely weakened or killed outright from shooting attacks.

I think the nasty possiblities for a "hammer unit" will be
Grotesques led by a hammy or a few beast squad. The beasts in particular look like they can do all kinds of nasty things. Eiher of these squads can come out of a WWP.

I don't think any of the units in the new codex are a game changer. It actually looks like a well balanced codex.

Incubi, wyches and bloodbrides are all "hammer units," just not deathstars, like the aforementioned LRC+TH/SS termies, seer councils or nob bikes. The only "death stars" I can forsee are Uber beasts units and possibly the Court of the Archon, although I haven't really looked at them, not having models and all. Fortunately, I think that Beasts will be used in moderation, and if not, would be easily avoidable (unless the enemy falls into the classic "hammer vs hammer" trap, nicely playing into the DE's hands, and the TH/SS or seer council or what have you deserves the rightious beatdown it gets as a result). Unlike Seer Councils, nob bikes or Termies, there is nothing preventing them from simply splitting into smaller units for maximized effectiveness. Same hurt, equal price. Just less pain tokens.

I'm curious if DE can easily handle DeathStars. I always found that if I ran my nob bikers into the old style Wytches, I would get bogged down and my ultra cool unit would get picked to pieces because of that invunerable save and the removal of attacts. Is this still the case?

DE deathstars seem to be the proverbial boulder to your armies proverbial indie as soon as it starts rolling you have to keep running no matter how many poison arrows or pit falls there are, and when you get out your surrounded by strange men holding blowpipes... that analogy went askew somewhat.
My point was they seem to be a deathstar where the best counter is to just hit them as soon as possible and not feed them roadbumps.
