Well i dont have any flying dogs yet but i swear that is what my chapter master will ride one day.

So here is my fluff

Name: Sky-Hounds
Chapter Master: Tarkan Greatblade
Fortress Monastery: Alphus
Main colours: Blue, white, gold aquila
Specialty: Orbital Bombardment and Plasma.
Battle Cry: Founding: Thirteenth Founding
Current Chapter Strength: 30 Marines, 1 Predator, 1 SkyComet (Stormraven), 1 Venerable Dreadnought , Chapter master Tarkan Greatblade

The Sky-Hounds are a space marine chapter unique in that they are one of the only chapters to create their own ships. They control a space station/ shipyard that was reclaimed from the iron warriors several hundred years ago.
The Sky-Hounds actually have a home system but they only return their once their resources start to run low. And this doesn't happen very often because they restock when they can and the space station is capable of producing power.
They have huge foundry's inside the station so they can preform repairs and build entirely new vehicles while on the move or even in the middle of a war.
And the fleet they had created over time had grown to such a size that it was capable of defending them from most threats when supported by the massive guns of the space station.
They gather recruits by offering the chance to work on their ships to any population they come across that they deem fit. if they find one of their recruits is working exceptionally hard then they will promote him to scout. This way they have huge force of hard working recruits ready to be selected.

However the last battle of the Sky-Hounds was fought against the Iron Warriors who to this day are still trying to take back the Space station/Fortress Monastery Alphus.
The battle was fought against an entire legion of iron warriors (ten thousand strong) and the chapter lost nearly all of its combat forces in the last assault against the iron warrior fortress. The Iron Warrior Fortress had the station pinned down behind a moon through use of its massive cannons. So the Hounds had no choice but to assault the masters of defense. This is the reason that nearly all of their chapter was destroyed. They had to detonate the rector core of the fortress and only a handful made it out on a skycomet with a predator before it exploded. A later sweep of the wreckage discovered the only survivor was a heavily damaged venerable dreadnought that refused to die. The Sky-Hounds are now making the long trip back to their home system to begin training and reconstruction on a mass scale.

I will later heavily expand on this and explain their specialty. It will also be a lot clearer than this.

But so far what do you think?

Here is my colour scheme. The green marks him as a tactical marine.

You have 30 marines, a predator and a venerable dreadnought left in your chapter? oh wait and a Stormraven.
You should probably put that a company or 2 was delayed by disturbances in the warp and they are the survivors because with only 30 marines and no apothacaries the Imperium would simply disband the chapter.
You could also say that the 2 companies (or however many) are highly superstitous because they didn't share the same fate as their brothers and belive it was the will of the Emperor.
Or not your choice.
Everything else looks okay to me.

Just to warn you, your marine's color scheme is dangerously close to looking like captain planet. Might look better on an actual model though, so might not be a problem.

i second having more marines survive the detonation.

my guess is that you have listed what models you actually have as the survivors.

make the number 60 marines including a Chaplain, a couple of Librarians, and a 1-3 Apothacaries. even 1 apothacary will allow your chapter to survive a sfar as fluff is concerned.

i like the fluff BTW. it isn't too OTT like most homebrew chapters end up. the one tweak i would make is the recruitment method. prehaps have them take potential initiates and have service on the Station as one of the tests. Like they make the initiates survive among the gangers and hive scum working there. if they survive for a certain amount of time they procede to the Implantation stages.

Ok then the remaing forces are

Chapter Master

Chaplain

Apothecary

Honour Gaurd

70 Marines

Stormraven

Predator

Furiso (Venerable)

Standard Dreadnought

1xThunderhawk

No librarians becuase they have a long staanding alliance with the exorcists and supply anyone they find with psychic powers to them.

The remaining forces (Save mister dread) were the ones able to escpae onto the thunderhawk and stormraven.

They are not bothering with recruitment until they reach the homeworld beause they have their reserve of gene-seed stored there.

Chapter Master Tarkan Greatblade is famed for riding his winged hound called cyno-griffon. Any inquisitors he has mt ahve actually tried to have the beast killed. But it is said to be his best freind and some say it is as smart as a human. It stands as tall as a space marine and when in battle is covered in heavy ceramite and adamantium armour. After the great loss of most of his chapter he has sworn to kill 1000 traitor marines before he forgives himself.

The marines will be based with snow and grass.

The chapter specialty is orbital bombarments (From the station) and assualts covered by orbital bombardments. But they have switched to a defensive stategy until their numbers are replenished.

Ok i have now decided to play demonhunters on the tabletop so this fluff is now pretty much useless and i will be changing the title of the thread. Instead my army will be called knights of the silver sword.

Name: Knights of the silver sword.
Home Planet:Hippodron
Chapter Master: Astraios
Main colours: Silver, Dark Red, Grey
Specialty: Anti-Demon
Current Chapter Strength:60 marines, 200 stormtroopers, 2 dreadnoughts, chapter master Astraios, 2xLand Raiders

This chapter is the only one ever founded by the exorcists.
There number are so low because they been declared excommunicate.
There is, however a remote planet that supply's and shelters them in return for protection from demons
They were declared excommunicate upon the the chapter master breaking all ties and setting course for the eye of terror.
It is unknown why he did this.
Although it is speculated he was tired of the restricted spartan life of a Grey knight and wanted to have fun.
Their chapter numbers are so low because they recently had an encounter with angroth and it took the deaths of nearly their entire chapter to bring down his host. It was actually the chapter master with his signature two ended force weapon that banished angroth for another 666 years.
They are in the process of recruitment.
Their methods for recruitment are to gather the recruits from the planet and bring them too their ship where they are trained by fighting demons of increasing strength. In between each battle there is weeks of training but the recruits are taught nothing before their first battle. they are given a force weapon and pushed into an arena to fight.

just

Now you have GKs being declared Excommunicate.

The DH codex is quite clear. No Grey Knights has ever fallen to chaos. None have ever broken their ties.

also, the GKs don't command Stormtroopers. The Inquisition does. ISTs are used when there are none, or too few, avaliable GKs. they root out demonic cults, the GKs actually hunt deamons.

go back to the fluff you had before. it was getting good.

Daemonhunters never, EVER go rogue. They have the Imperial doctrine hammered into them from day one of their training. It just doesn't happen.

There is, however a remote planet that supply's and shelters them in return for protection from demons

1. If a planet was threatened by daemons, it would either be evacuated and purged or just bombed from orbit to avoid any risk.
2. Since when can you 'shelter' Space Marines? Aren't they, you know, fairly visible?

Although it is speculated he was tired of the restricted spartan life of a Grey knight and wanted to have fun.

For a Space Marine, doing his duty is fun. They probably can't think of anything they'd rather be doing.

Their chapter numbers are so low because they recently had an encounter with angroth and it took the deaths of nearly their entire chapter to bring down his host. It was actually the chapter master with his signature two ended force weapon that banished angroth for another 666 years.

What, Angron, Primarch of the World Eaters? The guy who invaded Armageddon with 50,000 berzerkers at his back and nearly destroyed it was banished by a non-Grey Knight for 666 years when actual Grey Knights only banished him for a century?

Their methods for recruitment are to gather the recruits from the planet and bring them too their ship where they are trained by fighting demons of increasing strength. In between each battle there is weeks of training but the recruits are taught nothing before their first battle. they are given a force weapon and pushed into an arena to fight.

1. Force weapons aren't just something you pick up and swing. You need psyker training to use them.
2. Summoning daemons without the assistance of trained Inquisitorial staff or powerful Chaos Sorcerers is incredibly dangerous. Even Librarians can fall to Chaos from constant exposure.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

Gotta agree with cheese elemental on this one. Heres a thought, instead of making a renegade chapter of mary sue grey knights, why not check out the Relictors? They are a chapter that specializes in daemon hunting and were excommunicated for using captured daemon weapons. http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Relictors

There you go, non chaos renegades who have a bone to pick with demons, and you didn't even have to break the fluff to do it

Uhg, there are sooo many things wrong with your fluff. Traitor GKs? Your chapter master just happens to be the guy that banished Angron? Summoning daemons to train? Giving random recruits force weapons?
Uhg, just no. Step away from the fluff.

Dude seriously, the Relictors are the way to go.

1. There are only 100 of them left.

2. they're non chaos renegades.

3. they hunt demons.

4. IIRC they have over abundance of librarians.

In addition their agenda of using chaos against chaos fits perfectly with elements of the radical inquisition such as the xanthites, which solves your problem as far as how they maintain a presence in the IOM as well as whos sheltering/supplying them.

You can even keep that goofball captain planet color scheme, just say they're disguising themselves as some other obscure chapter to avoid suspicion by the locals on the world the xanthites have hidden them on.

It's hard to make original Daemonhunters stuff as well they are pretty straight arrow as it were.
SW however well just slap the lost company sticker on them and go for it.
SW have a "great hunt" every now and again where they try and find Leman Russ. This basically involves them all getting in their ships and going in 1 direction for a long time until they get told to come back. Invariably some don't come back. Some get lost in the warp and get pooped out later somewhere else.
Say that happened and then say they decided to help out in the region they ended up in and have been there ever since.
