Hi there,

Me and my friends are going to have a 1250/1350 point tournament. I usually play with a ton of suits but want to try meching up. The list (1249):

Hq: Commander Cloudedge: 96
Shas’El, AFP, Twin-Linked Flamer, Multi-Tracker, 1 x Shield Drone

Hq: Commander Coldpoint: 120
Shas’El, Plasma Rifle, CIB, P.Rel, Multi-Tracker, 1 x Shield Drone

Fa: Pathfinders: 168
4 x Pathfinder
Devilfish, Disruption Pods, SMS, Multi-Tracker, Array

Fa: Piranha Shoal: 150
2 x Pirahna, Fusion Blaster, Array, Disruption Pods

Tr: Fire Warriors: 145
6 x Fire Warrior
Devilfish, Disruption Pods

Tr: Fire Warriors: 145
6 x Fire Warrior
Devilfish, Disruption Pods

Hs: Hammerhead: 165
Hammerhead, Railgun, Burst Cannons, Multi-Tracker, Disruption Pods

Hs: Hammerhead: 130
Hammerhead, Ion Cannon, Burst Cannons, Multi-Tracker, Disruption Pods

Hs: Hammerhead: 130
Hammerhead, Ion Cannon, Burst Cannons, Multi-Tracker, Disruption Pods

In 1350 I would add a squad of kroot, maybe swap the CIB for the AFP and drop the 96 point commander for a Heatwave team.

Should I include a Helios commander or sunforge for the extra fusion? I havn;t played a lower level points game so I don't know how much mech I will be facing. The general idea is to have the AFP/TLFl commander in reserve or escorted by a tank or two. If he is in reserve a deep strike behind terrain/skimmer wall for that- or next- turn objective assault. The other commander joins the Pathfinders, for the first turn or two. I felt this was the best balance between safety and offensiveness that I could afford to get for a Relay user.

Any thoughts/criticism? I don't like to write geared lists but I will be facing mixed chaos marines, eldar, possibly tau, space marines and guard. I can make any unit swap except for extra Pirahnas, I have extensive tau resources

Thanks,

Guy

You have almost no AT in the list which will end you against any competitive build...

Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.

Yes my Colour is Black but not for the reasons stated mainly just because it's slimming... http://imperiusdominatus.blogspot.com

beef up your fire warriors with only 2 units of 6 you wont be holding objectives very well.

drop the flamers on your commander you don't want to be getting close enough to get assaulted

Flamer suits are garbage, as is the AFP.
Hq: Commander Coldpoint: 120
Shas’El, Plasma Rifle, CIB, P.Rel, Multi-Tracker, 1 x Shield Drone
CIB isn't good, also a 2nd HQ suit is a waste of points.
Fa: Pathfinders: 168
4 x Pathfinder
Devilfish, Disruption Pods, SMS, Multi-Tracker, Array

Fa: Piranha Shoal: 150
2 x Pirahna, Fusion Blaster, Array, Disruption Pods

Tr: Fire Warriors: 145
6 x Fire Warrior
Devilfish, Disruption Pods
Fish needs SMS unless you like your tanks less effective with extra KP.
Tr: Fire Warriors: 145
6 x Fire Warrior
Devilfish, Disruption Pods
Don't need this fish, give them the Pathfinder fish since Pathfinders are a static unit and shouldn't be in a fish.
Hs: Hammerhead: 165
Hammerhead, Railgun, Burst Cannons, Multi-Tracker, Disruption Pods

Hs: Hammerhead: 130
Hammerhead, Ion Cannon, Burst Cannons, Multi-Tracker, Disruption Pods
Ionheads arn't worth the points, give them Railguns or use the points fir Crisis suits.
Hs: Hammerhead: 130
Hammerhead, Ion Cannon, Burst Cannons, Multi-Tracker, Disruption Pods

HQ joins the 3 man Crisis team for your anti-MEq punch. 2nd Firewarrior team takes the Pathfinder fish. The small Crisis teams split fire to take out light armour. For 1350 add either a squad of 10 Kroot with 5 Hounds or another Crisis suit to each of the 2 man teams.

Tau never hold objectives well. I would never recomend more than 2, 6 man Firewarrior teams for anything under 2k.
drop the flamers on your commander you don't want to be getting close enough to get assaulted
This I agree with tho.

I'm not really interested in having more than 2-3 suits, and have previously found the AFP/TL flamer combo to be incredibly effective, with appropriate support. I also don't really like Plasma/Missile pods, I find the plasma is wasted on most veichles and the missile pod is wasted on marines. I plan to use the Positional Relay to keep my troops off the board for as long as possible; it would make no sense to arm them with 40 points of gear apiece when I would also lose (a kill point liability) another contesting unit, and they would not get to shoot a lot. Them being off the board, the pathfinder fish will probably be empty. The volume of chassis also adds to the overall survivability of the army. I've also suffered from Railhead syndrome and really only take it for the Sub round, I find Ionheads generally make their points back and give a reliable 3-4 marine cleanup after a template between them. I was thinking more along the lines of should I downgrade/drop the hqs for another troops choice? Kroot? Any extra fusion? A skyray for the str8? Heatwave suits? Two seperate pirahnas (kill point nightmare)?

I like everything on the list except your HQ. I don't see a lack of AT. The Railgun and Piranhas would do fine at these points.

Personally, I would make one of your commanders a standard suit upgraded to shas'vre with the same loadout. Probably the AFP/TL Flamer suit, as he doesn't rely on a higher ballistic skills as much.

With some of those point, I would get a target lock on your hammerhead, and then maybe another Fire Warrior with the leftover 10 pts.

Seeing as your W/L ratio is 5:1... I trust that this isn't a bad list.

I would never get a skyray. You only get four shots, I really don't think they are worth their points.

Whichever they are, I'm not on the Reich ones, clearly.
