Ol' Blighty

This is my raven guard SC- Areth Caan, Master of shadows. The manager at my FLGS had a look, changed some stuff, and stamped it, so it is legal- I just wanna know what you guys think of it.
Points- 270.
WS- 6 BS- 5 S- 4 T- 4 I- 5 A- 5 W- 4 Ld- 10 Sv- 2+

Wargear:
Master-crafted lighting claws
Twin-linked grenade launcher (mounted on jump pack)
Artificier armour
Jump pack
The wings of Corax:
Fashioned by the primarch himself in the aftermath of the Istvaan dropsite massacre, the wings of corax give the user +6" movement when making a hit&run move.
Bolts of the raven (had a cooler name but I lost the sheet with the proper rules on ): These bolt pistols are a bespoke creation, specifically crafted by the techpriests of mars for stealth operations, built to survive the harshest environments for long periods of time. This pair of bolt pistols has the following profile:
S AP Type
4 4 assault 2, rending.

Special rules:
Eternal warrior
Stealth
Chapter tactics (see page 91)*
Hit & run
Furious charge
see, but remain unseen
Master of shadows: any units shooting at Caan (and models in his squad) from further than 12" away have thier BS reduced by -1.

*Of the SM codex

What do you think?
Fair?

I'll post pics as soon as I finish painting him

JB: I like the concept of a free Shrike roaming through the treetops of the jungle. I'm not sure that I like the idea of a real Shrike sitting on my couch eating my Skittles.
corpsesarefun: Thank god I missed be nice to shrike day.
greenskin lynn: because of all the skittles and soda, you basically live off sugar water, like some sort of freakish human-hummingbird hybrid.

Fair, but don't see how useful he is...

Basically a less useful Shrike that's just packed up with abilities for himself personally.

EDIT: I actually noticed his attacks, and now I think he should be priced a lot more...

7 Attacks on the charge with a re-roll, fleet, rerolls to wound, STR 5 on the charge, Eternal, -1BS and all the rest of the things stacked on him...

He seems kinda... imba?

The only thing I see missing is an invulnerable save...

Nope.

Though I do agree that lacking an invulnerable save is either an oversight or odd.

To me, costing issues aside, he lacks focus. He shoots pretty well, he's solid in melee for his points, and he's fast, but he's kind of got the "too many roles to be good at any one" thing going on. If I were you, I'd edit him so that what should be done with him is more clear.

There's just an acre of you fellas, isn't there?

Oh, yeah. he also has an iron halo.

grayspark wrote:7 Attacks on the charge

His extra CC is included in his profile, for a total of 6, similar to shrike.

Oh, okay. I'll make a second, cheaper version:

Areth Caan
WS- 6 BS- 5 S- 4 T- 4 W- 4 A- 5 I- 5 Sv- 3+ Ld- 10

wargear:
jump pack
power armour
the special bolt pistols
Iron halo
master-crafted lightning claws
Wings of Corax: Blahblahblah, Mars, Istvaan, Him & his squad get +D6" movement when doing a hit & run move.
Special rules:
Herioc intervention
Stealth
Combat tactics
Hit & run
Furious charge
See, but remain unseen
Master of shadows.

Okay, so this is what his job is:
A hard-hitting CC unit which adopts the whole guerrilla stealth doctrine. He thins the numbers with his bolt pistols, before charging into CC, killing massed heavy infrantry, pulls back from anything that survives, and if it's the enemie's turn next, ducks down and weathers the incoming hail of shots, before charging once again. Speciality is killing IC and thier retinues, without having to go through every other unit to get there, and isn't left hung out to dry when thier target is dead.

Why is he I6? The only unit in a SM codex that I'm aware of that's I6 is the Sanguinor, a supernatural being. Space Marine command elements are I5 for a reason, and most of them don't have Furious Charge.

I also don't get how he's supposed to synergize with an actual army. As far as I can tell, half his rules are designed to make him, specifically, badass, but won't function unless he's on his own - his wings, USRs, etc.

I'd compare him to other 275-point SM Special Characters out there as a guideline to just how OTT you can get away with.

He's specifically meant for my squad of vanguard veterans.

Will do. (as soon as I get home- I'm elsewhere ATM)

Or should I make him even more badass, but more points, designed to go on his own?

Yes, it does, so your guy's I7 on the charge. That's a little insane. And I understand that he's meant to kill ICs, but I'm asking for a fluff justification of why this guy is so ridiculously fast in combat. The only other Space Marine that is that fast is, as said, a supernatural being that may very well be a shade of Sanguinius himself. I6 is a big deal. I7 on the charge is an even bigger deal. Marine commanders are I5.

He's specifically meant for my squad of vanguard veterans.

Wait, so he gives Vanguard an extra 6" of movement, as well as Hit and Run?

Or should I make him even more badass, but more points, designed to go on his own?

I wouldn't say more badass, no. The fact that your I7 A6 master-crafted LCs 4W Chapter Master can Heroic Intervention is already enough, believe me. Add that to the fact that he can do it with a unit of Vanguard Veterans while giving them an extra six inches of movement AND another USR is...yeah.

I6 now. and only the extra 6" when hit & running.
