Any examples of people painting SW not grey. Or using armies as count as SW, such as some of the factions that dont have their own codex (sons of horus for example).

They also look good in shades of blue and also in white. Plus, isn't yellow one of their colors?

As far as counts-as, it's endless. I recently played a few games with an all-termie grimnar SW army of doom who used chaos terminators for everything because they look way cooler.

Local guy in my gaming group painted his Wolves as a renegade group and they were done in black and yellow, with some red mixed in for contrast.

OP I don't have images or anything, but I'm imagining an army of Red Wolves done in an off-rust with SW gray trim might look pretty sweet. Or really any earth tone (including black or white) with SW gray trim.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
according to the 40k wiki there is only one SW successor chapter, the wolf brothers, but they don't have an article in there showing their heraldry.

damn man, thats exactly what I was thinking. A nice deep red colour, with nice weathering (possible battle damage too....although battle damage + weathering can be a bit much).

Anything tan could work, with the wolf pelts done up witha timberwolf/coyote type colored pelts.

Also, look up some images of Mexican red wolves for some interesting colors.

This is my paint scheme for my space wolves which will end up being auxiliaries for my main chapter. Please note, the image had a lot of pink added to it by the camera for some reason. The armour is actually much closer to a blood red for the most part, but yes, I intended it to look quite fleshy.

Painted my wolves a deep purple when I first starting collecting in 3rd ed. Changing them over to grey now because purple wolves just look plain stupid imo and I'm after something more traditional now. Shame I never took any pictures because some of them looked pretty good - dark purple and yellow seems to work pretty well.

If you find a colour scheme you like and you enjoy painting them go right ahead, nobody gets to argue with you because at the end of the day they're your models and you're the one investing time and money on them. Just don't go for more than 3 basic colours, otherwise it can look very messy.

"Fenris breeds heroes like a bar breeds drunks - loud, proud and spoiling for a fight." - Grand Master Belial of the Dark Angels
"To think that Tyranids are mindless beasts is a grave mistake.... These aliens have shown evidence of both tactics and strategy that speaks of a far worse threat than that posed by a mere beast." - Marneus Calgar, Chapter Master of the Ultramarines

SW's dont have to be grey, white, or that stupid GW blue colour. As long as your units represent the ones in the Codex thats all that matters. Thing about SM's is you can use pretty much any SM type Codex really. As long as you have the models.

Currently collecting and painting Eldar from W40k.

Space Wolves are grey as per their chapter tradition. 13th company may have single parts in their armour that isn't grey though.

You may want to rephrase your question. Something like "Show me some Space Marines chapter colour scheme (no Space Wolves)".

I paint mine black, red and grey/silver, I've never been too keen on Space Wolves grey. I'm not a very good painter unfortunately...

If you want to use the dex and models then do so. There are no other chapters that fit the Space Wolves dex other than Space Wolves and home brews.

Its kind of the point of not describing all 1000 chapters, you create armies that fit your preferences.

Best bet is to first decide whether you what to focus on the silly space puppy side or the heroic nordic side of Space Wolves. If its the later have a look at nordic banners and pennants for possible colours. If the former choose an animal and either work with that colour or choose a contrasting one so the pelts stand out more.
