I wanted to get into mech gaming without the hassle of BattleTech's rules. Settled on Mech Attack! http://armorgridgames.com/

After printing it out, I'm pretty impressed. It looks to be a great cheap (8 bucks) quick-play mech game that attempts to encompass the scale, vehicles/weaponry/troops, heat factors of CBT with an innovative damage system in a very short, simple 13 page book. I wasn't impressed with paper mechs that the game provides (nice enought if you're into 2.5D, but I like toys) so I settled on MWDA figs which I will rebase. Here's the questions.

1) What size hexes would best accomadate MWDA mechs? I don't want much(if any) of the feet to overhang, but I don't want massive bases either.

2) Anybody have links to pics of converted MWDA mechs? I've been given a bunch of agro/mining/construction mechs and they are going to need some converting to be convincing war machines?

Any other advice about converting rebasing MWDA would be great.

I use hex-shaped floor tiles from Home Depot. They work amazing, but add significant weight to the mini. Most don't need a base that big, but the quads and other large 'Mechs don't overhang them. Other bonus, it's like $4 for 25 bases.

Yes, you will need something big. The MWDA mechs are much larger than the BT ones. I had the thought of cheaper models and larger scale, but after purchasing several MWDA mechs I decided I didnt much care for most of them. Many are just too different (and not in good ways) from the original mechs.

In the end I went back to the BT mechs. Im still looking for a better system to play, I may check out the system you mentioned.

If your interested in the MWDA mechs I have I wouldnt mind parting with them, let me know and Ill give you a list of what I have. I have removed them from the "click" bases and mounted them on 50mm round PP bases.

Another option besides the home depot bases is gale force 9. They have chinese food containers packed with the base style of your choice cut to your specifications out of a hard board.

I bought 2 crates and got a ton of hexes all made to 50 mm. I picked 50 mm because it fits the MWDA stuff easily, fits the reg btech stuff with room for terrain around it, and fits the 2 inch hex felt mats I have.

If the home depot stuff is 2 inch hexes then I would say go for it but if it is any bigger give gale force's custom bases a try.

I've only ever seen the tiles at Home Depot. But I haven't looked anywhere else in a while. When I was originally searching, they were only there.

50mm is a perfect fit for the MWDA mechs, thats why the ones Ive got are on PP 50mm bases. I base all my BT mechs on the BT hex bases, mostly since I use Heroscape terrain for playing BT and the hexes on that are almost the same size as BT. Just a bit bigger actually.

Thanks for the basing info folks. I've got a bunch of mechs inboud and then I'll decide on a base size. I want to pick something that will accomadate both mechs and vehicles.

I didn't find the tiles, but as it turns out I'll probably use GF9 and go with hexes a bit smaller than 50mm. Likely around 45mm, as huge bases annoy me and I don't at all mind the way the larger CBT mech's feet sometime's overrun the base edge a bit.

I almost decided just to use the inner parts of the clix base, but Mech Attack and CBT (should I ever decide to try those rules again...) work best when units are on hex bases.

I decided to go with GF9 econo bases. I also purchased about 60 of the EM4 plastic 28mm hexes (1GBP for 20!) for infantry. Here's a repost (from TMP) of my impressions of the GF9 Bases. I got the hexes for mechs and smaller vehcles and the rectangles for larger vehicles:

Just wanted to report great service/product from GF9. I ordered two Quarts of Bases. 45mm hexes and 45x70mm rectangles for the rebasing of Mechwarrior minis.

Delivery time: Ordered on sunday night, had my bases on Thursday!

Shipping costs: I had heard about supposedly high shipping costs, but for me it was only $6.06 USD for 30 bucks of product. Not too bad.

Product: They are thicker and more professional looking that I expected. I could not have achieved this good a result on my own. Even though they are an engineerd wood product, they feel as strong as wood. As others have mentioend, they do have a bit of soot on some of the edges and as they were cut with a laser (burned) the package smells like a campfire when you open it. It's actually rather pleasant.

Value: They stuffed the chinese takeout containers well over the brim. One couldn't even close! I definitley feel I got my money's worth. Each Quart of basses was 15 bucks.
I recieved:
104 45mm hexes (14 cents a base)
74 45x70 rectangles (20 cents a base)

Overall Experience:
I looked at a few other options before ordering.
-Litko had more options and a possbily lower price, but reports of 4 week or more waits discouraged me.
-I also considered making my own, as I have sources for free hardboard. 100+ bases is alot of cutting and I don't think I'd be able to make really clean hexagons.

I'm very happy with the service and the product, and if I ever need alot of custom sized bases again, I'll probably order from GF9.

I've based up two test mechs using the hexes and my uber-thick pumice paint. They look great! As soon as I my last batch of MW minis comes in and I finish painting up my Wastelands post-apoc warbands, I'll get to work on basing everything else. I've got well over 250 units to rebase!
