"By the Emperor, you are in the wrong platoon if you are here." -Captain Anders

Background:
In the many generations of Imperial Guardsmen to rise and fall, thousands have graced the battlefield with unparalleled intelligence, wisdom and luck. While not all are truly aware of the purpose they have served to not only their emperor, as well as humanity as a whole, in various campaigns they have proven to be one of few elements available and employed to turn the tide of conflict in their favor. Struck down in a glorious blaze of lasfire or left to survive the plagues of every war they are put through to the very ends of the universe, all hold some irrefutable credit in assuring the success of their species. The Ogryn Rejects, do not consist of such individuals.

Founded on Armageddon as a long-term solution to the ever growing issue of incompetence on and off the field, the Rejects are not a task-force to be taken seriously, as they hold very few if any victories on their record. For good reason. Populating the few platoons issued to the Rejects, are as the name would describe; Failures of the Imperial Legions, shunned and passed down to the one planet that can not put a limit on the amount of man-power needed to confront the ever growing threat that exists on their homeworld. Soldiers that are generally inept, slow, without concentration, stupid and even drug-bound or simply out of favor, are likely to be transferred to the Ogryn Rejects as punishment for their failure, if only to assure success by examining the treacherous battlefields with assets that are easily considered 'expendable'. As a result, the Rejects are frequently dismissed as Cannon Fodder, sent to the slaughter on campaigns believed to be of great difficulty, for the simple purpose of probing enemy terrain and defenses for the benefit of greater understanding....at the cost of lives that are unwanted.

While the Rejects are often dismissed as failures, in this too are many comforts provided by such blatant disregard for their status. As a result, it is often not unseen for soldiers amidst the Rejects to indulge in what the more pristine and well-trained platoons normally could not. From the use of Drugs to the collection of Alien artifacts and alliances bound by time and word alone, making the Rejects universally adaptable to most situations that they would normally fall in. As a result the Rejects, while frequently wiped from existance in the campaigns of history and tomorrow, are often populated by survivors, soldiers that have drilled into their minds the understanding of what must be done in order to survive. No weapon is beyond their grasp, no vehicle is beyond their understanding and no front....is without some familiarity. On the outside the Rejects are a Platoon of losers and failures but on the inside, rests a family of survivors striving to prove that they can survive.

Something like this probably belongs in the P&M Blog, and not the 40k Army List Section. Otherwise you should post a playable list you're thinking of working towards so we can critique it.

I'm actually working on the list right now. At the moment I don't have a full inventory of what I have and what I want...as both are still up in the air.

EDIT: I'll post up the whole intro thing on the recommended forum however.

EDIT II: Checked out the recommended forum, I'm not certain such an introduction is really necessary in the painting forum...I'll keep it attached to my army list for now.

Eventually you could probably make an army profile. Your intro would go well in there. Otherwise I like the background. From what you have so far it looks like you're going mech. You may also want to consider putting hull heavy flamers on your future chimeras. They have a better tendency to get you out of rough spots with the flame template as opposed to the 3 shot Heavy bolter at BS3.

From the picture I'm assuming you're going steel legion? Don't see too much of those guys. It'll be nice to see some around here.

I have a premonition of doom. You don't have even a single infantry model yet and already you're pumped about all the way-too-many heavy support choices you're intending on cramming into your list. The end result is going to be terribly unbalanced, and will have issues. Better to straighten your list out first, rather than spending all that time and effort in modelling only to find yourself fielding an uncompetitive list.

Yeah, I agree. I can tell you that just buying a box of cadians and a command squad and saying "Oh I have enough for 2 vet squads and a CCS, that's enough," philosophy will have you losing so many games you'll find yourself saying, "How do people win with this army?"

Buy d00ds. Many d00ds. Then work on your heavy support.

I actually do possess a fairly decent amount of infantry, I'm still passing them through inventory however, checking what I have and how much. At the moment, the only real numbers I can promise are those of pieces I recognize immediately from my collection.

I have a fairly decent amount of Steel Legion infantry, consisting of three squads total (or should be three, maybe four) with two Heavy bolters and one Lascannon. An additional Tallarn Autocannon, a Tallarn squad I desperately need to increase in size for a fast-attack build...

Three Commissars, two Yarricks (one classic) A techpriestess Engineseer, an assortment of old Catachan and normal officers, a Primaris Psycher, and a fill-in model group for Steel Legion Storm Troopers.

I still need to get accurate numbers though.

EDIT: Three rocket launcher teams included. Around five squads total if I cobbled them together.

First. I recommend dropping the embedded image. It distracts from your list. And won't help you win any fights, but it does cost zero points, so its not really hurting you any either.

Second. The background, while entertaining, it too suffers from the same problem that embedding an image in your post has. Its not going to help you win any battles. The pro's... it does cost zero points, so really its your call.

Third: If your list is about Ogryn's I don't see any, so I can't tell you to drop them for something with more utility. So I'll wait til you edit your list for the 12th time, then add that comment.

Fourth: Leman Russes are okay, but without seeing the rest of your list, can't recommend against or for squadron-ing them. Considering how many heavy choices are viable, its a tough call to figure what you really want to field in the heavy slot.

    Good Luck :-)

Actually, if anything....the personality of the army has always been the driving factor behind the successes of previous engagements. Knowing that the soldiers are more than just generic faceless goons has certainly done a lot for moral, not to mention it allows me to truly envision how engagements can go and what pieces are best for what situations.

It also excuses defeat too, because defeat has become an expected outcome at the beginning of each battle. When victory is attained however, it delivers a greater deal more in joy and surprise, because "them losers pulled through!"
As for the platoon name, it doesn't serve to imply that Ogryns are the center of the platoon (although I do have five older generation Ogryns I do intend to add). The whole idea was to communicate that the personnel in the platoon were rejected even by Ogryns, because they simply weren't as smart. Hence the Ogryn Rejects.

I'll add nice pictures to add interest to the infantry, tank, aircraft and support catagories. The only reason this is here and unfinished, is because I accidentally hit the POST button instead of the PREVIEW button. Still hating myself for this act of stupidity on my part.

Thank you for the advice though, I am very thankful for it, and I do intend to put it to good use.

EDIT: Agh, my eyes. Spent the better half of an hour making the infantry roster picture....attempted some new tricks with cropping and breaking the border for a slightly better look to the image. Got something nice. Hope to apply the same effect to the other section pictures.

EDIT II: AAAGGGHH my eyes....it's too late in the night to be working.
