First of all, I like plastic: they're lightweight, cheaper and much more easier to convert. That being said, I was planning on using Vulkan on my list, but as a counts-as since I'll be making a new chapter based on the Knights Templar. The chapter colors:

Now, I was planning on having him a shield instead of a cloak and maybe a spear or lance or any two-handed weapon to represent the spear. Problem is, I don't know how to start or what sets to buy in order to make this one. Any suggestions on how should I begin with this project?

Violence is not the answer, but it's always a good guess.

You could look into Black Templars, they've got the cross much like the one in the pic there, just paint em up white and red

For the spear, max mini do a range of weapons and just released some vibro spears i think they were called

Edit:Ah, linky: http://www.maxmini.eu/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=110

They've got 6 in the box, so if you wanted to do up an honour guard with em as well, it'd be a grand wee purchase.

Aren't Grey Knights mainly metal?

The main reason I want plastic parts is that I don't have the equipment for modeling metal parts.

The Black Templars conversion pack looks good.

Violence is not the answer, but it's always a good guess.

I thought of GKs too, but since the current models are being phased out-the packs of 5 are no longer available for example and the army is/was entirely metal.
BTs suit the idea perfectly, and since vanilla marines are drowned in plastic. BT upgrade packs ftw. Would quite like to see white templars for a change, hope you get a blog up whatever you decide!

Okay, as i have said earlier I don't like metals because it is hard to convert them. But what if i have a metal model that doesn't need converting?

That model would only require a shield (do you know guys where I can purchase those?) to represent the cloak. And how about the flamer and fist?

Violence is not the answer, but it's always a good guess.

You could always snatch a cloak from the Dark Elves Corsairs (ask around for bitz). you can easily fit it on the back of the Emperor's Champion and cover up any discrepencies with the SM backpack. You can also call it a Dragon Cloak for fluff reasons and satisfy anyone's dispute that Vulkan He'Stan needs some Salamander's symbol.

He'stan just counts as being armed with a flamer. I doubt any "count as" model would need an actual gauntlet with flames. Maybe make the sword flaming (there are a few tutorials on how to do that, but I just glue red and yellow cotton to it). and say he's calling down the wrath of the emperor from his sword.

Heavy Flamer not flamer.

Lol details~ A giant flaming sword will still spell doom and make for a great centerpiece. Or you can always steal one from the Empire Wizard set (there's a crapload of bits on those sprues, so someone who plays empire must have one).

Hi Starsdown,

First of all - nice to see someone else on here from the Philippines!

If are going to get into conversion, your first port of port of call is green stuff. You can get it from Neutral Grounds (defo from Glorietta not sure about SM or...near you...are you Manila based?)

Second point of call should be National Bookstore and look for the engraving kit. I got 8 little tools, with 8 different heads for 8 pesos. That, a pin and paper clip are pretty much all you need.

Third, you want to get some hand gel. Because GS is seriously sticky stuff and hand gel seems to work well - unlike vaseline which sticks around for a long time
hand gel evaporates after a few mins.

If you get the gs, you could actually make a decent shield (saving you buying a whole mini just to get the one shield). Just find a bit of plasticard for the rigidity. Or ask around (they have blackboards in most NGrounds - leave a message) saying what you are looking out for.

FYI

You'll want to undercoat white if you are painting white (and, if you find a source of white paint for models let me know, I am making do with Bone White). I just got a can of Kylon ultra flat (baige though) its a bit powedery but it is good. A little pricey though but if you are spraying plastic best to make sure you get a good one as its a bugger to get off.
