Hi,
With imperial Guard platoon it says must have atleast 2 Infantry Squads, are the Veteran Squads allowed to be used instead, For example:

Platoon Command Squad
2 Veteran Infantry Squads

Any help would be appreciated, as i'm new to Warhammer 40k

Oh, thanks,
One more question, Do i have to take 2 platoons of infantry Eg :
Platoon 1: Platoon HQ and 2 inf Squads

or would that platoon count as my 2 required troops?

No, one platoon is one troop, so you have to take two to fill your minimum troop (For example, 2 Platoon Command Squads and 4 infantry squads)

Also, Veterans fill one for themselves, so you could have one minimum sized platoon and one veteran squad as your troops.

Another (off-topic) funny fact, it's fully possible to go to 'ard boys with nothing more than the minimum FoC, if you're playing IG.

(That is, 2,5k, with only 1 HQ and 2 Troops.)

TO maybe clarify a little more:

A platoon is a weird construct, as it has many Units that count as 1 Force Organisation CHoise (A troops choice) - a lot of codexes do it with 2 units, a unit plus a dedicated transport for the unit, but guard are unique in that they can have something like 20 units only taking up 1 slot on the FOC.

The FOC requires that you take 2 troops *choices* (or selections) as well as 1 HQ as the minimum you need. Each platoon takes up one Troops Slot, and at a minium the platoon has to have 2 infantry squads plus 1 platoon command squad.

You will also need, in addition, either a Company Command Squad or the alternative HQ choices such as Primaris Psykers and Lord Commisars. This is because although the Platoon Command Squad is the "HQ" of the platoon, it is NOT an HQ selection in the game - it is all still part of that one Troops choice.

Veterans, as noted, are seperate from Platoons - as you note they have no "*" next to them like the platoon entries. AS such, if you wanted, you can have 2 squads of veterans as your minimum two troop selections, but agani would need a CCS or Lord COmmisar (etc) as the HQ.

Hope that helps. Guard is an *excellent* book, very fluffy and full of some amazing units. Hydras, for example, are one of the best tanks in the game!

So, does the lord Commissar go by himself, or does he have the usual Veterans with him, thanks

The lord commissar is an Independant Character, so he goes by himself unless you join him to a unit, which you really should do.

You have commisars, who are upgrades to infantry platoons (and a few others) - they are different to the Lord Commisar, who if you look in the HQ section has his own, seperate profile and points cost.

This character is an "Independent CHaracter", and can join other units, confers leadership to them, etc. Its worth having a look at page 48 / 49 abotu how independent characters join and leave units, what happens when you shoot at a unit with an IC attached, and most importantly what happens in ASsault - where they are treated as a seperate unit.

You still require the platoon of one platoon command squad and two infantry squads for the heavys to join, heavy weapons squads cannot go it alone.

I never said you didnt. In the context of the poster, who already HAS two infantry platoons, they CAN just add them in (with the points costs) without issue.
