Hi all, I've decided that my next army is definetely going to be comprised of power armour and have chosen the Ultramarines as, for the most 'visible' chapter out there, ironically I've not seen anyone else running them. I toyed with the idea of including Marneus but decided upon Sicarius instead, as I like his special rules a lot more, and his ability to buff the whole army is really nice indeed.

Anyway, here's what I've got so far:

HQ

Sicarius
200pts

Command Squad
- Company Banner
- Company Champion
- 3 x plasma guns

Drop Pod
240pts

TROOPS

Tactical Squad (10)
- plasma gun, lascannon
- power weapon

Drop Pod
240pts

Tactical Squad (10)
- flamer, missile launcher
- power weapon

Drop Pod
220pts

Tactical Squad (10)
- meltagun, multi-melta
- power weapon
Drop Pod

225pts

ELITES

Dreadnought
- multi-melta, heavy flamer
Drop Pod

150pts

Dreadnought
- multi-melta, heavy flamer
Drop Pod

150pts

Sternguard (5)
- combi-meltas
Drop Pod

185pts

HEAVY SUPPORT

Thunderfire Cannon

Drop Pod
135pts

Total = 1745 No of Drop Pods = 8

I'd be interested to hear what you guys think, I reason its a pretty well-balanced force, and the drop pods ensure that I can drop as/where I want to to put pressure on any particular part of the enemy army. as well as not wasting the bolter shots (of which I have lots of) by keeping the Tacticals stuck on my board edge. Sicarius will grant the requisite Veteran skill to whichever Tactical squad would benefit from it the most (S8/S10 plas/las is pretty damn nice!) and the rest of the army will simply do their thing!

Thoughts? Opinions? Let me know!

Your generally better off running an odd number of Drop Pods that way you will be able to deploy the majority of them turn 1.

If you Pod in the Thunderfire Cannon it isnt going to be able to shoot on the turn it arrives.

The way I look at Sicarius's abilities is that he makes one squad a major target... For that reason alone I have never been tempted to take him.

I would suggest Ironclad Dreadnoughts over the standard ones your droping they will give you alot more flexibility.

Your better off with a power fist in a tactical squad instead of a power weapon.
