Ok, so I have been scouring the forum and rulebook for a clear answer to this: What is the maximum bonus to combat resolution you can receive from multiple combatants.

I understand the max you can receive from ranks is three but what if I charge with two units who both have banners, is that a +2 total (+1 for each)?

Also, what if I have three units that charge right flank, left flank and rear is that a total of +4 (+1 flank, +1 flank +2 rear).

What about multiple chargers, is that +1/unit or a simple +1 for being the side that charged into combat? Thanks in advance.

Banners is +1 maximum, it IS in the rules for calculating combat res - dont have book on me.

I think you only get +3 for sides/rear - you get +1 for flanking them, no matter how often you do it...

Each unit that charges in gets +1 on the turn it charges.

Multiple flank/rear attacks on a single unit won't do additional bonuses (so yes +3 max).

Charging will only ever give +1 per side, not per unit. pg 59 Charging :"In a multiple close combat, you receive +1 combat result if your side has one or more units that charged this turn."

You can get multiple flank/rear bonuses in a combat assuming different units are flanking/ in the rear of different enemy units. p59, there is even a handy little diagram demonstrating a multiple flank bonus.

Basically pg 59 answered all of these.

As to a maximum, theoretically there isn't one due to the potential for multiple flank/rear bonuses (only applies to multiple enemy units, see pg 59).

I suggest you don't believe anything posted by thedarkavenger unless confirmed by other regular posters here at Dakka. He has shown he is incapable of basic English comprehension.

You actually use that thing? Seemed needlessly finicky to me...

“It was in lands of the Chi-An where she finally ran him to ground. There she kissed him deeply as he lay dying, and so stole from him his last, agonized breath.

On a delicate chain at her throat, she keeps it with her to this day.”

It gets you used to all the different sources, and can actually be quite fun to see if totting up. And in addition means you can add up the huge multi combats much more accurately than using lines of dice, especially when someone inevitably interrupts and you forget if youve added rank bonus in or not...

I do play a lot of card games which involve peg boards to score, so that probably helps!

Cribbage? I suppose it would make a great teaching tool. I remember coaching people along, and combat res is one of the hardest spots to remember everything that grants a bonus.

Various brag games as well - and yes, it is a good tool, you can see each step you must go through.

Thanks for the quick reply Nos, I'm a spaz and clearly overlooked that part in my little IOB rulebook.

Swordmasters in "horde" mode, x2, hitting the same unit of 6- plague monks with a furnace.

It was a FUN combat
