As 8th imposes a limit of max 12 pd how many wizards/wizard levels are best suited to this?

and if multiple lores can be chosen is it better to have several lores or have all spell casters take the same lore?

(player of empire here)

So far I've been rocking out an Arch lector in the War alter and a lvl1 battle wizard and that's been working well for me.

A level 4 and a Level 2 have been working nicely enough for me.

High Elves. Level 4 With Lore of Life for Buffing Goodness and the Level 2 throwing out Hexes with Lore of Shadows. Should the opportunity arise, they can try tossing out some nasty spells at the enemy with Dwellers or Pit of Shades.

Same here. Although I cheat and have a Slaan, who contributes waaaay more than his wizard levels. Life or Light, Im not decided - Light has more useful offensive buffs and hexes, but life keeps your troops alive (or regrows them) and makes me almost immune to miscast (2+ followed by 2+) for at least one.

Level 2 heavens has a nice mix of offence and defence, and some weak buffs, and being able to chuck dice at comet every so often is fun.

Light has been golden for me so far. I'm unsold on any other lore as much as I am with light.

With my HE at 2k points I have been running Teclis with Life, and a level 2 with Either High, Death(pretty meh) and Light

Daemons: a LEvel 2 Tz Herald with MAster of Sorcery(knows all spells of a lore instead of Tzeentzch) of Life and 30 Horrors(level 3) Worked very well.

Right now what I am really liking is a lvl 4 with either shadow or life and a lvl 2 usually beast. they focus their spells on 2 big units of infantry (mindrazor on spearmen and the signature beast spell on halberdiers). Put a warrior priest in each unit and they can be pretty nasty.

I take the lvl 4 more for his ability to dispel, paired with an extra 2 dice from warrior priests, I can usually cancel out a moderate magic army's ability to cast spells rather easily.

T.O.

I think for # of casters you should have a level 3 or 4 for dispel and a lvl 2 as back up. This is just as a precaution against armies that bring the pain in the magic phase, slann and daemons in particular. Levels help you to dispel too.

For lores, there is something to be said about taking the same lore, it lets you pick a lot of your spells.
In my VC I have 2 lvl 2s and a lvl 1. I end up choosing half my spells which is handy for a balanced army.
My WoC use a daemon prince (lvl4) and a lvl 2 sorc, both taking the lore of fire, again choosing about half my spells. Course with lore of fire they all do pretty much the same thing.

Please put this on your sig if you know someone, work for someone or are related to someone who suffers from stupidity. Stupidity is real and should be taken seriously. You could be sitting next to a sufferer right now. There is still no known cure for stupidity and sympathy does not help. But we can raise awareness.... 93% won't copy and paste this because they don't know how to copy and paste

I take a L4 with RoP for +4 and maximum flexibility...plus an AL (no walter here!) and WP for +3DD...it works out fairly well. I've been using life...but, sadly, the only really good effect has been the lifebloom to keep the mage himself alive. I'm thinking of switching to light... Shadows has worked really well against me, so that's another good lore.

I take a lv4 wood elf mage with the book of argesh (or something like that) and the lore of life as i get +6 to cast and +5 to dispel, and his sidekick a lv2-4 mage with no upgrades and again the lore of life, i love that lore

2 Level 4's is often a little overkill, but I do like the flexability and redundancy.

Edit: Thats with Bretonnians, lore of heavens and lore of beasts, both for the buffs/hexes and the fact I'm more or less stuck with them

In the Webway.

With my DE, at what will be a 2000pt army, im using a lvl4 with shadow. It's working pretty well, but obviously with only one wizard all it takes is a bad roll on the miscast table and that's the end of your magic. At a higher points value i plan to run a lvl2 with either metal or death.

My HE are at a small points value but at my planned 1250pt level im going to use a lvl2 with either high magic or life.

So my (rough) guidelines are:

1000-1500pts (ish) 2-3 magic levels
1750-2250pts (ish) 4 magic levels
2500pts+ 5-6 magic levels

Hive Fleet Leviathan Strand 1500pts. W-D-L=7-1-2 Nom.

Eldar armies of various sizes W-D-L 26-6-3
