Warrior Preists in 7th got their prayers off automatically and they could be dispelled with a dice over their power level.
How does this work in 8th? I've had players saying I have to roll over the power level to cast it. And how does the war alter come into this? (it allows the rider access to all of the lore of light.)
So far I've been playing it as I just roll over the power level to get the prayer (or spell if I'm on the alter, 5+ to cast any one spell).
Have I been doing this correctly?

You use your power dice now so you still have to roll above the the amount stated but you can roll as many dice as you want so you can cast a bound spell with irresistable force.

They used to be cast automaticly.

If you've been using power dice (from the winds of magic or a few other sources) to roll over the respective casting values of the bound spells (3 on a normal priest, 5 for the war altar's lore of light spell) then you're pretty much doing it right.

Can the Warrior Preist channel for an extra dice?

Pretty sure that it should be 4 for the prayers, not 3.

Thanks, don't have the book in front of me. Thought it was something like 3 on priests, 4 on lector, 5 on altar, but I'm just guessing.

The prayers are power level 5 while on the alter.

No only the Lore of Light spells are power level 5. The Warrior Priest/Arch Lector "Sigmar" prayers are at power level 4.

It feels like warrior priests got nerfsticked pretty hard in the recent edition, along with other characters with bound spells.
On the other hand, if you field lists with warriors priests and no wizards, you have plenty of power dice to get your bound spells through.
But it would appear it is pretty hard to have both wizards and warrior priests. Guess they don't like each other, stealing them power dice.

My friend who played Warhammer always combined WP with a Wizard, casting dangerous spells to waste my dispel dice, and then used his WP bound spells.

I'm currently running an AL and two WP with no wizards at 2000pts. With that I get plenty of dice to cast my 4 prayers and my Lore of Light spell and lots of extra dispel dice. Though if your opponent doesn't quite fancy casting a lot of spells most of your prayers will be dispelled in their next phase which is a pain.

And feel free to throw as many dice as you want at WP prayers. Miscasts don't have any effect with them.

Though you really only want to do that with the AL's Light spells. Unless you really need that ward save or the re rolls more than two dice, even that's a bit much, is a bit of a waste. Unless you managed to get say 8+ dice and all you have are bound spells to cast.

WP and wizards work great together. A level 4 with a couple of priests to give troops hatred and you have +4 to dispel and a free dispel dice for each WP. The level 4 will bogart the PD most of the time, but if he loses consentration or a prayer seems more useful, the priests can use as much as 6 PD to cast and ignore miscasts.

Yeah i run a wizard lord with a war altar/archlector and a couple warrior priests for hatred and the free dispel dice combined with rod of power means you have some serious magic defence.
