Subject: High Elves FAQ 1.2 question

So, with the new FAQ out for high elves changing the way 'elite army' works I have a question on how it applies.
Page 89 – Choosing an Army
Add “Elite Army
The High Elves are few in numbers, but their armies are
trained and equipped to standards so high that they are the
envy of all other races. To represent this, an army may include
up to 6 of each Special choice (up to 12 in a Grand Army) and
up to 4 of each Rare choice (up to 8 in a grand army).”
I'm trying to figure out if it by saying 6 of each special and 4 rare choices if it means for example you could run 6 units of shadow warriors 6 units of Sword Masters 6 of x so on and so on. All of them being special choices, or if it means that you can run 6 specials total.
This might be a dumb question. but the wording seems a little strange to me.
Thanks in advance!

The wording is not that strange, you can take "up to 6 of EACH special choice". So yes, you could take 6 units of shadow warriors or swordmasters, or 6 units of shadow warriors AND 6 units of swordmasters, points allowing of course.

Ok, So EACH choice means per allowance of the FOC?
Example: 6 special choices at 2,000 points per the army book, then for each one of those choices I'm allowed 6 choices? IE 6 choices+Elite army FAQ = up to 36 specials in a 2k game?
Or does EACH refer to each entry into the army book for the choices, ie, 6 max of each unit?

You are allowed to take as many special choices in an army as you can afford, but you are only allowed 3 duplicates under the normal rules.
So a Lizardman army could take 3 units of Temple Guard and 3 units of Chameleon Skinks (both Special) provided the total cost still only constituted up to 50% of the Army total.
High Elves may duplicate up to 6.
So yes, you could take 6 units of White Lions AND 6 units of Swordmasters.
Your points must still fit into the 50% of total army however.

2,500 - Discipline. Duty. Unyielding Will.
2,000 - He alone has the Emperor's soul in his blood.
2,500 - Order. Unity. Obedience.

Blankmass - you are missing that that entire page in the army book is now removed.
8th ed no longer uses "slots" to determine your restrictions, it is now %age based. This 8th ed rule ENTIRELY overrides the old army selection.
Normally you can spend 25% of your total point allowance on rare choices, however you cannot have more than 2 of each type =- so only 2 great eagles, for example. High Elves can take double that, so could take 4 Great Eagles (as long as you have enough points to do so!) using the Elite Army rule.
This appears to be the root of your confusion - the army selection page from your codex is now irrelevant due to the changes in 8th ed. If you are still playing 7th ed then NONE of the new FAQ applies to you, essentially - it is all changes to the army book needed for the new rules.
