I wanna make a small point Black Templar list. What Should I buy and how should I use them.

I think 2 BF's+some scouts and upgrade packs+chaplain would be a decent 1000ish list. Dont know too much about their actual lists though

I'm not too sure about the BFs, as you'll get assault marines which aren't all that great for BT (sure, they have their uses, but not too often). You'll also probably want to get at least 10 more marines, as you'll need one marine for every scout model you want to field. The issue here is that you only can fit 10 dudes in a rhino, so either the rhinoes or the scouts get left out (unless you want to make 5/5 crusader squads, which I don't recommend). What you'll probably want is a LRC, which you can buy as dedicated transport for crusader squads. I'm not sure if you'd fancy LRs in small games though, they do eat a lot of points.
Now, with a Chaplain with Cenobyte Servitors, 10 marines and 10 scouts footslogging, you've got yourself a nasty unit. Everytime someone gets killed by shooting, you take an auto-pass leadership test thanks to fearless from the Chappie, you consolidate D6+3 with a reroll inches thanks to the servitors, and you get to consolidate toward any enemy unit, not just the closest.
For ranged support, I'd suggest a LC/ML Venerable Dreadnought, as BT can give theirs Tank Hunter. Las preds are pretty OK too, considering we get them for quite significantly less than the Codex Marines. Rhinoes/razorbacks are more expensive though.

Oh, and while I remember, you'll want to buy/kitbash the Emperor's Champion. The Codex forces you to include him in armies of 750 or more points, but he's totally worth it.

Well you dont have to use assault marines. Use the backpacks you get from upgrade sprue to make crusaders/swrod brethren

Oh yea forgot about land raiders, they are great for large crusader mobs

True.

Oh, and I wouldn't use sword brethren. Sure, you get furious charge, infiltrate or scouts for 3 points per model, but other than that they're just normal marines with more options (one being terminator honours, but that makes for very expensive non-scoring marines. Add the points of upgrade weapons and you're in for an expensive ride, and then you might as well take assault terminators, which, for the record, rocks socks off).

You'll need an Emperor's Champion as well. 750 and up, he's a required unit.

So make that a bunch of marines with CCW/BP, some scouts (for neophytes), and an EC.

Basically imagine you're an expensive power armored ork with BS4 fire support. Ride upon the dead neophytes to make it into CC! Bring Dreads to take down tanks and armor from range

1. Your Rhinos still have the old smoke launcher rules, so abuse that.

2. Sword Brethren Termies+LRC makes an excellent deathstar.

3. Chaplains rule.

4. Techmarine on a bike leading some Attack Bikes is quite powerful.

Not a tough army to play; just assault a lot. Crusader squads can have heavy and special weapons I belive, so good ol LasPlas is an option for small, transport poppin' squads. Hope this helps.

Just remember that we've still got target priority checks. I'd still reccomend a LasPlas squad, or possibly even a PlasPlas squad. Missile launcher's fine too.

Oh, and try to get a Holy Orb of Antioch in. For 10 points, you have the potential to melt a LOT of MEQ faces.

Emperor's Champion(AAC)
Marshal(Terminator Armor, Lightning Claws) /or/ MoS Chaplain(Terminator Armor) //Just my favorite load outs you can do whatever
(10 Marines/4 Neophytes)(PF, MG)x3

Is about 1000 points not sure did the math in my head.

This seems to be a list AlmightyWalrus was kind of hinting at not a very refined list but something to start. Accept Any Challenge for the EC period imo. The Marshal gives you better chance to continue moving forward with a ld10 but the chaplain will allow re-rolls for the unit he is attached to. Both are nice at this point range but usually only one will fit when equipped like this. And as far as equipping your squads I go with Power Fist and Meltagun every time. 30 marines, 12 bullet shields, with the HQs providing good powerful hits all which will re roll every attack in CC is a lot to deal with at 1000 points when super heavy artillery is less likely to be all over the map. At higher points I would shy away from a black tide build like this as I have found it not to work out at all. LRC and Rhino spam are your best bets to be competitive. I'm not a super veteran of the BTs but these are some things I have experienced since I picked up them up.

Honestly let me start out by saying DON'T!

Of all the armies in the game BT's are the most disputed in terms of rules because, as of right now (aside from Necrons) they have the oldest codex in the game.

Now if your not planning on using this for tournaments thats another story!

I used to play BT's so here is some tactics from an old General.

HQ-Emperors Champ, Chaplain fully loaded with Adamantium mantle, Power Fist, and Terminator Armor.
Elites-5 Terminators with power fists, Storm Bolters and 2 Assault Cannons
Troops-1 15 man squad of 10 Initiates and 5 Neophytes give Initiates Powerfist and Power weapon, 1 squad of 10 Initiates with Lascannon and Meltagun.
Heavy support-Land Raider Crusader.

Ok how this list works! Put the Chaplain in the Terminator squad and deepstrike them where you need some serious firepower and CC ability. put the Emperors Champion behind the Landraider and move him up with the Land Raider, Put the 15 man squad in the Land Raider and make that your beefy close combat squad. With the added support of the Emperors Champion they should be able to pummel most things. The Land Raider Crusader also has the best firepower of the old land raiders. Finally put the last squad in cover and use them to snipe vehicles with the Lascannon. The total points of this whole list is around 1000. It's pretty solid but its only my suggestion because I like CC thingy's. Yeah it's why I used to play BT's and now play BA's.

Emperor's Champ with AACNMTO, 5 man crusader squads with special weapons in rhinos, and if you wanna go nuts, LC termies with furious charge, but those are quite pointy.

A marshal or castellan may be handy as well, owing to the fact that Ld9/10 is very nice.

Hello SuperMcFly! First off, I want to wish you good luck playing with the Black Templars. Secondly, I invite you to take a look at my Black Templars website, Implausible Nature. Chances are good that you'll find answers to most of your questions there. It is entirely devoted to competitive Black Templars gaming, with some DE stuff thrown in for spice. I have even written a pretty extensive BT 101 guide at the beginning of 5th Edition, that is being constantly updated as the meta changes. It has become quite the popular destination for BT players, so hopefully it'll be of assistance for you as well.

For additional Black Templars tactics, army lists, and general gaming information, check out my site:

Don't listen to the people that say that BT are a power armoured close combat horde. BT can be one of the shootiest marine armies right now, or they can be one of the assaultiest marine armies, but then they will rely on assault terminators.

The problem with both lists, is that they don't work very well below 1750 pts.

Shooty templar lists love these units, in order of importance:
Land Speeder typhoon
Predator annihilators with lascannons
Termies with tankhunter and cyclones
Venerable dreadnought with tankhunter and assault cannon
las/plas foot squads
melta/multimelta rhino squads

Fighty templar lists love these units:
Emperors champion
Furious charge assault terminators
Land raider crusaders

I would suggest one of those two kinds of lists if you want a really competitive army. Power armoured horde might work ok at small pt values, but you will be blown to pieces later. The BT troops is just not a good enough close combat fighter.

Arise ye threads who long since wither under our feet! Haunt this forum with your broken husk!

Nice necro there...

Oh, regarding the "don't listen to them" part, referring to an FAQ released three months after the thread's birth is kinda dumb IMHO.

Well, it wasn't me that necroed it, it was on the front page, so I just assumed that it was a recent topic. My advice is still good though

Oh I agree with your advice completely, just sayin'. Also, the Champ is a pretty good deterrence against charges by elite troops if you're playing shooty.
