Im helping someone I know build Tau, they are looking to start at 1000 pts.

The MT isn't needed as TL-MPs fire as one gun. Save points. Also, the 'vre upgrade is worthless. Look at the Init and WS increase and you'll see they have no impact on h2h, which is bad for Crisis Suits anyway. No upgrade is needed.

EMP Nades suck.
1. Half of them do nothing to the tank they hit.
2. If FWs are using them, then that means they didn't fire their Rapid Fire guns. Bad.
3. Your Crisis Suits are all equiped to hit tanks. FWs shouldn't need to bother.

First, equip with Dispod for a Cover Save. Second, *if* you go with SMS, then Add an MT so it can move and shoot both guns at Combat Speed. And then may as well add Target Array so those 7 dice hit. It's pricey, but it has teeth. It's called a Warfish.

Same with the fish above. Dispod, MT, and add Target Lock so the RG hit tanks and the other gun hits troops.

How would you do a tau list im open to anything. Seeing as its not for me.

Can he change his Crisis Suit load-outs (are they magnetized??

Assuming this is based on the models he has, it's a solid foundation, only in need of some tweaking.
What does he own? Gimme that and I'll give ya more.

It doesn't work that way. Buying two of the same weapon on a Crisis Suit automatically makes it Twin-Linked. Can't have 2 MPs shooting 4 dice. It'd be 2 dice, but Twin-Linked.

Arguably, yes, the FK is best, though I like the FireStorm, too, BC/MP/MT. I run both in my lists.

Generally:
Half FS and half FK is a good way to go, including the HQ.

2 Warfish fulla stripped Down FWs, min 6 or max 12 is good.

2 Railheads - BCs, MT, Dispod Target Locks.

That ought to be a reasonably filthy list at 1k.

They're meltaguns, but not good for suits, IMHO, because they bring the suit so close to getting caught in h2h. FKs and FSs keep the suits beyond assault arrange.

Shadowsun. The non-Twin-Link is part of her special set-up. Something to do with a prototype suit or some such ... and in 6 years of 40k, I've never seen her on the table.

So pathfinders dont need rail rifles really they should only be brought for firing marker lights. Other than that I don't know much about tau. quick question you don't happen to go by the name of brother captain james do you?

I do not sir. Im call Brother Captain, because i was the first SM player in the store I go to. I also make it a point to know every thing Space Marine, and do to that im always lookat for SM info.

Farsight. Not so dumb. As an Independent Character, he's like a standard SM Captain w/ PW, higher Str, Invuln Save, good Init. But players don't take him for his weps and stats; it's the alternate FoC set up he allows. He can only have a limited number of Heavy & FA choices, but he can load up on far more Crisis Suits.

A normal tau list can have 15 Crisis Suits. Including Farsight, that could go up to 20 Crisis Suits. *That's* his appeal.

7 of them can count as BodyGuards.

No, one KP for his 7 buddies as they can't all scamper off in different directions. They're just a *big* bodyguard unit.
