im having a little trouble understanding what im allowed to use from games-workshop.

I want to create a miniature game, but im doing completely different rules. i just wanted to use the art from games-workshops games and i wanted to use the models from warhammer fantasy.
My game would be a non profit game, just for fans.

I was wondering what id have to do to be able to use this things, or if im allowed.

Somewhere in south-central England.

You can't reproduce the art or the models.

You can buy the models and play with them using different rules.

You can't buy the models and sell a game that includes them.

You can publish a set of rules with your own artwork, or no artwork, and recommend the use of fantasy models such as GW's WHFB range, and Mantic's range, and so on, for use with them.

I am moving the thread to Dakka Discussions as it is On Topic.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Long story short: you aren't allowed to "use" anything from Games Workshop.

They paid for it to be created, they own it. The art is copyrighted, the model names are copyrighted, etc.

As Kilkrazy said, if you want to make your own art, names, background, etc and publish a ruleset, go right ahead. But you can't sell it with GW models, and you can't include pictures of GW models in it.

oh ok i gotcha.
So i can make a game just not using there art and backgrounds, names and use there game system, but im allowed to use there models if im not going to sell the game which im not.

The game i wanted to make was just for fun and to try something new with fans that im not trying to sell. I have a whole different rule system different backgrounds, names for the races. I wanted to make a rule book and make it look pretty good using some of there art, so it wouldn't help if i put there copyrighted and trademark info on every page of the rule book, basically saying

You'd have to reference base sizes and possible equipment on the models, but you
couldn't make GW models a part of your game.

There are a lot of historical rules sets out there that do this. You could check them out.

There seem to be plenty of talented artists here on Dakka who may help you out on artwork if you put the call out there.

Just a thought.
