So I tried my hand at hacking a part a Space Marine Scout. I severed this poor Space Marine Scouts' torso from his legs... and then attempted to attach a regular IG Cadian's chesticlats to the metal lower half... And low and behold, the mutha trucka busted in two again...

I believed I used the plastic model glue assuming that the thin layer of melted plastic might "weld" to the bottom... Totally didn't work yo... Any suggestions...

Srsly... Frustration hath betrothed my noodle, and I hate glue... Almost as much as I hate crazy girls that work at Kangaroo stations believing that they are a 1500 year old vampire. Srsly, true story... If someone gives me a good glue suggestion I shall elaborate on this amazing story of a girl that seriously thinks she's a vampire.

Drill and pin, plus Araldite epoxy resin.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Yeah, plastic glue only bonds polystyrene.

For metal to plastic, or metal to metal, superglue generally does the job. 2-part epoxy glue does it better.

I use superglue for everything. Except for things that can be bonded by PVA.

Violence is not the answer, but it's always a good guess.

I've got to thank all of those people who ONLY use superglue on plastic models.

It makes disassembling their stuff so much easier when you get it 2nd hand. Allowing the stripping and/or proper reassembly with a decent glue (or at least just the right amount of it).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

A common misconception is that Plastic glue is an adhesive. It's more of a solvent that dissolves whatever plastic it's touching into a liquid form, where when it dries it becomes one solid piece again (same principle of Welding). However it doesnt give adhesive properties to the plastic, so actually trying to glue it to something that cannot be dissolved by the Plastic glue is impossible.

Also +1 to chromedog. Some of the things I got second hand apparently was put together by a 3 year old. They drenched the plastic minis in Plastic glue, turning them into melted abominations. the guy apparently also tried to glue a completely metal model with plastic glue. It evetually worked (apparently) since the thing came "assembled" but it was more of him wraping the entire model in a cocoon of melted plastic than actually gluing the metal pieces together.

Anyways I use Loctite Glue now and reserve GW-brand Superglue (some people call it metal glue) for plastics. Loctite has a stronger hold than the GW glue.

Yea, rule of thumb anytime your putting metal to metal, or metal to plastic, pin pin pin. And use super glue for the bond. Works like a charm.

I used to be one of those numpties that would glue metal with plastic glues...

Works great if you can bother to sit there and wait for it to dry... But its like gluing with snot... breathe on it and the bond will break.

I generalyl dont pin my models at all, but I do see the merits in it. I'm just a lazy ass (and I dont own a pin vice, so all my pinning is done with a power drill). I tend to use either 2 part epoxy glue for heavier metal models, or use a combination of industrial strength epoxy putty and superglue (for models where the joint is mishapened and need more surface area for the glue to contact).

While pinning is looked upon brightly by some people, i myself have never pinned a metal to metal, or metal to plastic. Plastic to plastic being the only time iv pinned and it didnt work very well.

Yes. I agree with this. I often refuse trades because of stupid plastic glue. I don't care if the thing falls apart. I just want to strip the damn thing.
