My friend and I were talking about the Ambush special rule for Beastmen, and it is stated verbatim " ... at the beginning of the game, provided you have a unit of the same type and of the same size (or larger) that you deploy as normal..."

I always thought this means that you need 40 Gors for 40 Gors, but a friend of my said that it I can have a squad of 20 Ungor Raiders as long and have a squad of 20+ Gors deployed to count for them.

What do you guys think?

What's his argument re: "same type", that they're both of type infantry?

“It was in lands of the Chi-An where she finally ran him to ground. There she kissed him deeply as he lay dying, and so stole from him his last, agonized breath.

On a delicate chain at her throat, she keeps it with her to this day.”

Yeah both squads are considered infantry.

Type in this case is unit entry, not unit type.

So Gors for Gors, etc.

Well I guess I interpreted the rules correctly.

As it says a unit of the same type and the same size or larger I would say this means that you would need raiders to ambush raiders and regular ungors to ambush regular ungors etc...

Ungors for ungors
Gors for gors
Raiders for raiders

If you want to ambush a unit of 20 gors for example, you need to have another block of 20 or more gors that have walked on the table. That's how it goes for all ambushing units.

The bolded part is what makes this illegal:

Riders are cavalary and gors are infantry, thus not the same type.

It's Raiders not riders, they are not cavelry, though they are skirmishers which sort of makes them different, and also the maximum unit size for raiders is 10 so you can never have a unit of 20.

Essentially "type" doesnt mean infantry, cavalry, but the literal type of unit they are - which is Raider, Bestigor, etc.

So to ambush Raiders you need to have Raiders on the table. And so forth.
