I'm about to order a WoC battalion and it seems like a really nice one.
It's like buying a box of Warriors, a bit more than a box of Marauders, a box of Hounds and a box of Knights for a lot less than buying the separate boxes.

But I was wondering if there was a downside to the Battalion?
Is there less weapons and accessories options on the sprues of the Battalion?
Or it's exactly the same sprues as the ones in the individual boxes?

Thanks

Best to ask before you buy, either in the shop or via email to GW Mail Order Customer Services.

I believe the Dark Eldar Battallion lacked sufficient shields to make all of the Warriors into Spearmen, although this may have been rectified since.

I don't think the Dark Eldar have shields. But you're right, there are 28 Warriors in the Dark Elf box and only 12 shields. GW lists this as 12 Spear/shield Warriors and 16 Crossbowmen, but in reality it is 28 Warriors with enough spears/crossbows for all of them of any variety and three of the 4-piece shield accessory sprue. This has not been rectified and I sincerely doubt it ever will. Other than a shortage of shields (which are on a separate accessory sprue), all of the sprues are the exact same as what comes in the individual commercial boxes for Warriors, Corsairs, and Cold One Knights. There is no difference in the number of bits on these main sprues.

Per GW, the box contains 12 Warriors, 20 Marauders, 10 Warhounds, and 5 Knights. I would expect each of these to come with every bit that would come in the standard boxes.

Overall I think the WoC box is one of the better army box's out there; 2 of them and a character and your all set for a decent sized army.

Usually the batallion box has the same as the individual box sprues I think, with the exception of things like the dark elf lack of shields which could be solved by buying a bits pack of shilds or two for like $5 a piece.

with the sole exception of the Dark Elves it seems (and the CSM in 40K) all of these Battalion boxes should contain the pieces that the individual sets should. A Local FGS here often sells "open box" items which are the battalions and battle forces taken apart and sold individually.

As well, the WoC battalion is a really good deal. Chaos Warriors and Marauders will form the backbone of your army and Chaos Knights are a must-have cavalry choice. Warhounds are also good for flanking enemies, or you can always sell them cheaply to Daemon players for use as Flesh Hounds. In addition, if you buy them from a place that gives discounts, you can potentially get up and over 50% off all of the box's contents.

Thanks for all the answers

I just ordered it from Wayland Games.

43 pounds including shipping.

I don,t think I would be playing this game if there was no online UK store like Wayland and Maelstrom.
Canadian prices are so frickin high...

Does the conversion from pounds really turn out to much less?

I was cusious about that myself so I checked it out. It looks like you'd be paying about 5 to 15 less depending on the item. So depending on how much you're buying and what shipping the cost would be (I think one of the sites offered free shipping for orders over a certain price), you could be saving a nice chunk of change.

I did the calculations of the cost based on Maelstrom's approximate USD value (which is suppose to be the same, or close, to the Pounds value given on their site). The site claims that you save 10%, but actually Canadians save 30% over the retail GW price we get from the Canadian GW site. In addition, you save another 13% or so, since you do not pay the piss-high HST you'd have to otherwise pay for goods inside the country. This is usually compensated by customs check, but apparently Maelstrom hasnt had customs come up (or already includes the customs in the price). And remember there's already the 20% some off for the Battalion's own savings, so compound all of that together and you're saving a considerable amount of money.

EDIT: Assuming that there are no further hidden fees at Maelstrom, you get 60% off all the contents of the Battalion by compounding all of those savings together (I did the actual math, not just adding the percentages together), at least for Canadians. It's quite a tasty deal.

I always use the default pounds for my orders on Maelstrom.
Last time I tried ordering something in US$, it was more expensive.

My Battalion on Wayland was 41 pounds + 2 pounds for shipping, so 43 pounds.
Maelstrom has it for 45 pounds with free shipping.

43 pounds is like 69.66$CAD

The same battalion on GW Canada is 108.00$CAD
That's 35.5% off the retail price.
And you don't have to pay any taxes

I'm from around Montreal and taxes here are like 12.5% so around 121.50$ for the same battalion in my local gaming store.
So I just saved around 51.84$ and that's 42.66% off

There is no hidden fees.
Actually, there is another good thing for the buyers.
You get like 1% of your purchase in moneyback for a future purchase.
It can be more than 1% if you make a huge order, up to 4% IIRC.

Also, sometimes they send you a voucher code when they are doing sales.
A few weeks ago there was a pre-christmas sale and the voucher gave you an additional 5% off on everything.
Earlier this summer, there was a sale with an additional 7.5% off for a total of 17.50% off the UK retail price.

The total cost of the items in the battalion is 154 CAD before taxes if bought separately so GW is already giving you a 30% off the price. HST here raises the price of it in toronto to a massive 174.02 CAD if all of the components of the battalion were bought separately. That was the price I based my calculations off of.

GW customer service confirmed what everyone was saying:

Hello

Thank you for your email. The troops in the battalion set have all the options of their normal counterparts and use the same sprues, the battalion sets provide a considerable saving over buying the models seperately. I hope that this is of help and if you have any problems please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Hey Gorrath did the item arrive yet? I'm curious as to how fast they ship and the condition it comes in. Did you use the cheap airmail option? I may use them if I am reading this right a £ is a euro correct? Cause I'm looking at battalions that are only $60 after shipping.

Never mind looked into it British Pounds so would be about the same.

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd
-Alexis de Tocqueville.
