is it viable to have an all blob IG army. What I mean here is limited if any heavy weapon teams, or special weapon teams, and have an army which is almost entirely lasguns. I want to try a fluffy army doing this, having a few GL or melta here and there, maybe some PW, and commissars, but not much else.

i don't have my codex on me at the moment (using a school lab computer waiting for bus home haaha) but i think a platoon of 5 inf. squads, a PCS and a commissar is 370pts. You could have 5 such platoons for 1850pts. The last 250 points could be used on the CCS, and any special weapons, PW, or additional commissars. That would be 275 Ig soldiers, and thou you wouldn't have much Anti-tank weapons, that many lasguns can wipe off so many forces, def in assault as well. You can surround objectives, give off very few KPs. Would it not be a good list due to its inablity to hurt tanks very well? My thought process was that due to the numbers alone you would have enough guys to handle almost anything that tanks wouldn't be a huge issue.

comments please?

IG Power blobs are a viable build. Basicly just big combined outflanking squads with commissars, maxed out power weapons, arhem, astropath, ect ect. supported by artillery like Manticores and Hydras. Power blob will wear down and kill MEQ in close combat.

how do you outflank them, with creed?

And is there a way to make an army without manticores, hydras, and just standard troops

yes, power blobs are plenty viable. Hypothetically special weapons laden blobs could also do it too.

You dont' need heavy support choices to win games, it's just that they're cool and useful, so lots of people take them.

And outflanking primarily happens with Al'Rahem. In my 1850pt. list I've currently got him outflanking two power blobs.

Here is my army list so far:

CCS, Straken, 2 Flamers

PCS, PF
4 squads, 2 meltas, 4 PW, commissar w/ PW
2x HWS-3 ML

PCS, Al'Rahem,
4 inf. Squads, 4 meltas, 4 PW, 2x commissars with PW

PCS, PF
4 Squads, 2 flamers, 4PW, 2x comissars with PW
2x HWS with LC

Total: 1850

is there not enough anti-hoard and stuff, what do you guys think?

126 blobsmen... I think I'm getting weepy.

Seriously, the only thing I'm bothered by is the PCSs. Al'Rahem can use bring it down, including on himself. Seriously like half of the vehicles I've ever killed have been with melta al'rahem showing up off the side of the board straight into melta range.

Also, the list is a little light on anti-tank. I'd be seriously tempted to dissolve a lascannon HWS and turn it into meltaguns/bombs everywhere, but I can't imagine a single HWT being all that useful just by its lonesome.

You know, you may also want to consider giving priests a try.

there are two lascannon HWS and two Missile launcher HWs, i thought that with all the meltas would be enough! but i do take your point. I was thinking of giving Al'Rahem meltas, i can do that.

I really want to focus on having that many blobsmen!

I don't know what I think of priests yet but I will give them a try!

I forgot to mention i want to make a 2000 point army list so would like to add things to this list. thou no tanks, i want it solely blob units.

I am not a huge IG player, but I have faced against a IG Blob army. My opponent had three infantry platoons, one had Commander Chenkov and each one had 50 Conscripts with the "Send in the Next Wave!" rule. It was extremely hard for me to claim objectives because I simply could not dish out 50 attacks every turn. He also had Commissars with Power Fists attached to the Platoon Command Squad, and had Power Fists everywhere he could.

So in total he had 150 Conscripts that came back every turn, and my Sanguinary Guard and Death Company just couldn't kill that many Guardsmen.

*A tank*

Hello fellow guardsmen! your list is pretty good, but id throw in either alot of meltas, or some Leman russ with regular battle cannon and no sponsoons for cost streamline,
and that gives you anti tank and anti infantry power, but like a few posts up, blob armys are basically *almsost* impossible to beat!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Oh didnt read the part " no tanks " in that case, stock up on those meltas!
