Me and my friends have always played where scoring units could only capture one objective and then they can contest any other ones.
but one of my friends was looking though the rule book for it, I don't know why, and he saw that the objective mission never said that scoring units could only capture one objective.
I've been looking though the rule book for where it says it but i just cant find anything that says scoring units can only capture one objective.
I'm so confused please help!!!!

Yes, if you can somehow manage to get one unit within scoring distance of two objectives.

Ya know, GW has these nifty FAQs. One of them says this:

Q. Can the same unit control several objectives,
providing it is large enough to be within 3" of
each one of them ?
A. Yes, absolutely, but we find this does not
happen that often when enemies are around...

It doesnt even need to be that large.

1 mission the objectives only need to be 12" apart, so a unit of 5 can easily take both - 3" from each objective, 1" bases, 2" coherency.

Just remember that units have to make 'defender reacts' and 'pile in' moves in assault, if a squad is really strung out you can charge the middle to force both ends away from the objectives.

It's actually not as effective as you think. If a model cannot make it into BTB or within 2" of a friendly in BTB, they simply have to keep coherency, with no requirement to move towards the enemy, which means you can end up moving some models FURTHER AWAY than they started. Tricky, but doable.

I was thinking of a squad spread to hit 2 objectives maybe 18-24" apart at most, not the big crazy 36"+ super-spread (or worse, the multidirectional star super-spread) that you could theoretically do. Since you pile in 6", base is 1", and you have to be within 2" of a friendly in BtB, the ends of the line need to be 9" from the farthest out guy that you charge for them not to be compelled to move towards the middle.

If you do encounter a super-spread unit, then you would have to charge an enemy within 9" of an end to force that end off of an objective. If you attack with a 7" spread in the middle of a 24" line, your single charge will force both ends to move so that they don't contest/control the objective. It's definitely not automatic to charge and pull off, I just think of a unit that stretches more than 24" as a special case than a general one.

Ah, but that is assuming the spread squad is a single file line with max coherency. Adding just 2 or 3 models into a 2nd line behind them allows you to move the 1st wave in first then move the 2nd to cover the gap.

Grots do this amazingly well, being a paltry 67 points for 20 models.

Yeah, ditto for guard horde. While three huge pile of guys charge forward, one of them hangs back and makes LIBERAL use of the fact that models can be spaced to 2" apart. A 30-dude squad could capture a string of objectives even when two of them are 94" apart.

Throw in a Commisar and perhaps a Regimental (iirc) Standard, and that Unit isn't going anywhere, though it is funny to see them be Sweeping Advanced.

I once had a lone Long Fang assault an outflanking Blob squad (CREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED! Hurr Durr Tactical Genius Durr!)after it lasguned his buddies to death which, against all odds, killed 2 Guardsmen, took no wounds back, he rolled and 11 then a 10, ran away, and rolled a 2 for his SA roll.

50 Guardsmen killed by one Raving Long Fang.

I won the game, coincidently.

So if I hit within 8" (lets avoid rounding) of the guys on the end, how do you avoid the end getting dragged to the fight? Do you cover all of the possible BTB spots with the '2nd line' guys, then make the others into a shell with just under 1" gaps just at the edge of within 2" of the guys in base, or is it something else? That idea really amuses me, I never thought about making some of your own guys into 'doormen' to keep other people from being forced to fight.

Pretty much.

Apologies for this now, but as I suck at really explaining things, I felt it would be easier with pretty sparkle-sparkle pictures!

Some silly Banshees are going to assault this poor Blob Squad, who luckily have a Commissar. (Those are 2" range circles.)
Spoiler:
After following the Assault roolz, the banshees look like so:
Spoiler:
The Guardsmen must now get as many models into BTB with an enemy model who is not already in BTB contact with a friendly model. Wheee! Done already!
Spoiler:
As there are no Banshees that are not already in BTB with a Guardsman, we go to the next step of getting as many models in BTB with an enemy already in BTB with a friendly model, which results in the following:
Spoiler:
Now, we move to the next step, which is getting as many models as possible within 2" of a model in BTB with an enemy model. As you are not required to move as close as possible, you can place them right at the edge of the 2" bubble:
Spoiler:
So, now that no-one else can make it into BTB or within 2", we now must keep coherency with a model that has already moved. Again, there is no requirement to move as close as possible.
Spoiler:

Congratulations, you have successfully Defenders Reacted further away! While this may win you the battle, the Commissar will want to have a few words with you I am sure.

You can do the same with Pile-In moves too, as they follow the same rules.

Gwar, you have a sick and twisted mind, using your own guys as doormen to stop the rest of your unit from having to get closer is a thing of beauty.
